The article discusses a hermeneutical analysis of academic texts related to the methodological criticism of individual elements of the structure of designed quantitative research, published in the form of articles, chapters in collective works and monographs. Dilemmas of researchers constructing research projects, asking themselves critical questions at each stage of a research procedure, will be described, critical situations for the correctness of a research process, and also general methodological requirements of scientific publications will be indicated. Besides the description of a critical approach of chosen researchers, the work also includes the author’s reflections on carrying out empirical research.

Hermeneutics has numerous meanings. One of them is the understanding of it as the art of interpreting spoken or written text. It has also gained the status of methodology within humanistic science. The applications of hermeneutics interpretation to analyse philosophy or literary texts is widely known. The question is whether it may be applied in the research carried out on the ground of empirical science about a human; namely psychology. In psychology, the understanding of a human as ‘projecting existence’ representative for the personal – existential approach, is the closest to the humanistic sciences. Due to these reasons, hermeneutics as understanding methodology may find application in the research on the noetic level of human development which is not subject to biological or environmental determination, being the area where axiological motivation is executed. The historic and contextual conception of developmental experiences by means of the methodology which understands and not only explains human behaviour, allows to discover new areas of functioning of the human psyche. The article also presents the rules applied while making use of hermeneutics interpretation of autobiographical narration on the ground of psychology backed up with their philosophical basis.

Hermeneutyka posiada wiele znaczeń. Jednym z nich jest jej rozumienie jako sztuki interpretowania tekstu mówionego lub pisanego. Zyskała również status metodologii w zakresie nauk humanistycznych. Znane są zastosowania interpretacji hermeneutycznej do analiz tekstów filozoficznych i literackich. Czy jednak można ją stosować w badaniach prowadzonych na gruncie empirycznej nauki o człowieku jaką jest psychologia? W psychologii najbliższe naukom humanistycznym wydaje się być rozumienie człowieka jako „projektującej się egzystencji”, reprezentatywne dla podejścia personalistyczno-egzystencjalnego. Z tego powodu hermeneutyka jako metodologia rozumiejąca może znaleźć zastosowanie w badaniach nad noetycznym poziomem rozwoju człowieka, który to poziom nie podlega determinacji biologicznej i środowiskowej, stanowiąc obszar realizowania się motywacji aksjologicznej. Historyczne i kontekstowe ujęcie doświadczeń rozwojowych przy pomocy metodologii rozumiejącej, a nie wyłącznie wyjaśniającej ludzkie zachowania, pozwala odkrywać nowe obszary funkcjonowania ludzkiej psychiki. W artykule przedstawione zostały zasady obowiązujące przy stosowaniu hermeneutycznej interpretacji narracji autobiograficznych na gruncie psychologii wraz z ich filozoficzną podstawą.
