The purpose of the article is to present the motivation and attitude of Polish students towards learning German. The analysis presented is based on research conducted by the author in junior and senior high schools throughout Poland. The findings indicate that the predominant motive for learning German is instrumental. Motivation connected with communication is of less importance in the east of Poland than in the western part of the country. Motivation concerning the culture of German speaking countries does not seem to be relevant for Polish students. There is a strong correlation between increasing and decreasing motivation to learn German and the image of a German person and the attitude towards the German nation: those students who are positively motivated to learn the language present an extremely positive attitude towards German society, while those with lower motivation exhibit strong prej-udice against Germans.

Jak wygląda dzisiejsza lekcja języka polskiego jako obcego w aspekcie kształcenia kulturowego i międzykulturowego? Treść podręczników może stanowić dobrą wskazówkę, czego można się z nich w tym względzie nauczyć. W związku z tym przeanalizowałem ostatnio opublikowane podręczniki do nauki języka polskiego jako obcego z punktu widzenia kształcenia kompetencji międzykulturowych. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiam moje wnioski, podkreślając, w jakim stopniu analizowane podręczniki promują kompetencje międzykulturowe jako rzeczywisty cel.

What does today’s Polish as a foreign language classroom look like with respect to cultural and intercultural learning? The content of textbooks can give a good indication of what could be learned from them. Accordingly, I analyzed recently published textbooks for Polish due to their promotion of intercultural competence. This paper presents my findings, highlighting the degree to which theses recent textbooks now incorporate promotion of intercultural competence as an actual objective.

They are also essential for success in educational and professional activity. The increase in occupational mobility, the implemented paradigm of professional development and the opening of borders are a real challenge for a potential employee. The sociocultural context with the growing number of intercultural workers enforces certain changes in the functioning of vocational counselling. Career counsellors, personal trainers and coaches must constantly monitor the process of labour market changes, but the quality of counselling depends on their knowledge and skills. It becomes necessary to equip them with specialist knowledge and competencies in the field of intercultural competence.

Artykuł podejmuje temat komunikacji interkulturowej, która w coraz większym stopniu wpływa na kształt i wymagania rynku pracy. Wzrost mobilności zawodowej, realizowany paradygmat rozwoju zawodowego i otwarcie granic stanowią realne wyzwanie dla potencjalnego pracownika. Coraz bardziej zróżnicowane realia socjokulturowe, ich wpływ na rynek pracy oraz stale rosnąca liczba osób funkcjonujących zawodowo w środowisku międzynarodowym wymusza także pewne zmiany w funkcjonowaniu samego poradnictwa zawodowego. Doradcy zawodowi, trenerzy personalni i coachowie stale śledzić muszą proces zachodzących zmian, ponieważ od ich wiedzy zależy jakość świadczonych usług. Koniecznym staje się wyposażanie ich w specjalistyczną wiedzę i kompetencje niezbędne w zróżnicowanym kulturowo społeczeństwie.
