The paper aims at presenting the linguistic attitudes and the underlying ideologies of the students of the Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania towards their mother tongue and the Romanian language. It provides a brief summary of the most important theoretical aspects entailed (definitions and an overview of the Hungarian sociolinguistic research on linguistic attitudes and ideologies) with special regard to István Lanstyák’s classification of linguistic ideologies. The paper continues with the presentation of the University, of the population and the sample used in the research, and the distribution of the respondents by faculty, sex, age, place of origin, nationality and mother tongue. In the following chapter, the perceived Romanian competence and the attitudes of the students towards the Romanian language is discussed. The last part of the paper gives a qualitative analysis of the responses to the question Where do you think is the most beautiful Hungarian spoken?, focusing on the issues of linguistic attitudes of the students and the ideologies behind them regarding their opinions on the most beautiful variety of the Hungarian language.

This study – a proposal of a project – seeks to investigate, on the basis of numerous documents from the cultural milieu, the extent to which Czech-German literary bilingualism has influenced the literary, cultural, social and political life in the Czech lands of the “long” 19th century (about 1770–1914/18), with the outlook in the Czechoslovak Republic (1918–1938). The analysis tries to work out the objective of the specific position of the literary bilingualism in the polylingual Lands of the Bohemian Crown and suggests its possible systematization. The paper touches also upon the question of the (possible) continuation and progression of the active literary bilingualism after the Czech and German nation-building and the national unity.

Artykuł analizuje literaturę naukową dotyczącą badań w zakresie kształtowania postawy językowej, a także poglądy dydaktyków w kwestii socjolingwistycznej wykładni pojęcia postawy językowej. Wytyczono kluczowe kierunki badawcze w zakresie budowania postawy językowej oraz podkreślono szczególną wagę zgromadzonej wiedzy w przedmiotowej kwestii oraz aspekty badań w zakresie kształtowania postawy językowej w nauce ukraińskiej. Zbadanie kwestii kształtowania postawy językowej jest poważnym tematem współczesnego dyskursu naukowego, gdyż język pełni swoje społeczno-kulturowe funkcje. Znajomość postawy językowej umożliwia podjęcie skutecznych działań w zakresie planowania polityki językowej oraz kształtowania tożsamości nosicieli języka. Postawa językowa w życiu społecznym pozwala zarówno oceniać stopień lojalności wobec konkretnego języka, jak i wnioskować o funkcjach, które język pełni w społeczeństwie. Jest ona instrumentem pozwalającym zbudować efektywną politykę językową, wskazać na językowe utożsamienie nosiciela i wywieść wnioski o reputacji i stopniu poszanowania języka.

This article focuses on the analysis of the scientific literature on investigating language attitude, theoretical approaches to the language attitude analyzed, the core paradigms of investigation connected to studying and distinguishing of language attitude presented, as well as the importance of data gathered regarding language attitudes and the specific nature of the language attitude studies in Ukraine that are analyzed. Studying language attitudes is popular, as the language which is investigated has numerous sociocultural functions, and knowledge of language attitudes helps to achieve success in language policy planning. Moreover, influences on linguistic personality and language attitudes allow evaluation not only of the loyalty to a particular language, but also the functional value of each of these. Language attitude is an instrument which allows successful language policy to be constructed, and also informs about the language identification of speaker, as well as about language status and prestige.
