Since the second half of twentieth century identity has become one of the central problems in humanities. It is perceived as something to be discovered or constructed. A person lives in a world of values, one of which is one’s individual and collective identity. The aim of this article is to present (from the linguistic perspective) self-identity as value in Wojciech Jagielski’s reportage All Lara’s Wars. The article presents Szamil’s search for and discovery of his own identity, connected with the choice of specific values. These values determine Szamil’s decisions, such as involvement in the Syrian war. His axiological space is  thus determined by religion. Divergent axiological hierarchies of Szamil and his mother Lara lead to conflict between them, which is shown here through the opposition of life and death.

Od drugiej połowy XX wieku tożsamość stała się jednym z centralnych problemów w refleksji różnorodnych dziedzin humanistyki. Jawi się ona jako coś, co dopiero musi zostać odkryte bądź skonstruowane przez podmiot. Wartości z kolei towarzyszą człowiekowi od narodzin – człowieka otacza „świat wartości”. Jedną z takich wartości jest  własna i zbiorowa tożsamość. Autorka podejmuje próbę przedstawienia (z lingwistycznej perspektywy) tożsamości jako wartości w książce reportażowej Wojciecha Jagielskiego pt. Wszystkie wojny Lary. W artykule został ukazany proces poszukiwania i odkrywania własnej tożsamości przez Szamila. Wiązało się to z wyborem określonych wartości, jakimi zaczął kierować się w życiu i jakie zdeterminowały jego udział w wojnie w Syrii. Sferę aksjologiczną Szamila określiło wyznanie religijne. Rozbieżne hierarchie wartości Szamila i jego matki – Lary – doprowadziły do konfliktu między nimi, co najwyraźniej widać na przykładzie omówionej w artykule opozycji życie – śmierć.
