Niniejszy szkic prezentuje szczegółową charakterystykę pana młodego. Na ten całościowy opis składają się: nazwy postaci funkcjonujące w tradycji ludowej, rys zewnętrzny (tj. strój, towarzyszące panu młodemu atrybuty przedmiotowe), portret psychologiczny postaci, skład drużyny weselnej oraz role, jakie pełni pan młody w obrzędzie. W zebranej dokumentacji źródłowej (pieśni, relacje potoczne o weselu, materiały etnograficzne) występuje kilkanaście nazw pana młodego. Są to m. in.: pan młody, młody, nowożeniec, narzeczony, kniaź. Najważniejszym elementem w charakterystyce pana młodego są pełnione przez niego role w czasie trwania wesela. Był on: (1) zalotnikiem, (2) organizatorem akcji weselnej, (3) zdobywcą.

The article presents a detailed description of the groom. The extensive description consists of: the names for the character functioning in the folk tradition, the description of the appearance (e.g. the attire, objects accompanying the groom), the psychological portrait of the groom, the line-up of the wedding party, and the roles the groom has in the custom. There are a dozen names for the groom found in the source documents (including songs, common accounts about the wedding, and ethnographic materials). These names include: pan młody, młody, nowożeniec, narzeczony, kniaź. The roles fulfilled by the groom during the wedding constitute most important element within the description of the character. The groom was: (1) the suitor, (2) the organizer of the wedding reception, (3) the conqueror.
