The support of knowledge management processes in organizations is a combination of various IT methods used for extracting, evaluating, disseminating, storing, organizing and generating knowledge. The selection of IT methods supporting knowledge management processes cannot be random, but must be based on rational premises. This rationality can be provided by the evaluation of the available methods and tools based on the criterion of effectiveness. Efficiency, as a gradable, fuzzy concept of economic science can be seen as a fuzzy linguistic variable set of values. Consequently, it is possible to develop a method for testing the effectiveness which use fuzzy logic, in particular, the fuzzy calculus. The description of the method, as well as an example of its application in the study of the effectiveness of IT methods used in knowledge management in universities, have been presented in this study. It should be underlined that the method presented here is universal and can be used not only for the evaluation of performance but also of other aspects of activity, such as operating capability.
