The model of educating lawyers, just as the model of university itself, undergoes constant changes. The search of new lawyer teaching paradigms seems to be a necessity on the one hand, but on the other one – it may be an opportunity to give a satisfying answer to all expectations from both higher education system as well as students. Exploitation of the potential of human creativity based on knowledge, because of the amount of external stimuli, requires the use of tools which allow its arranging. One of the techniques which may be of use here is mindmapping, since its basic purposes are: selection, arranging and remembering information, as well as supporting creative skills. Taking above into consideration, the aim of this article is both to make an attempt to show the mindmapping itself as well as to draw the reader’s attention to the opportunities given by using this technique in the teaching of law as well as the history of political-legal doctrines in particular. The article’s main part deals with the hypothesis based on the assumption that one of the elements of new legal education paradigms may be application of mind maps which allow not only increasing the attractiveness but, what is even more important – raise the effectiveness of teaching of law. Moreover, the ability to create and then to use mind maps can be a favourable factor in education of the so-called “soft skills”, such as: creativity, choice and selection of information, managing oneself at work or team work. To illustrate the contents, the author presents examples of his mind maps created with the use of specialized licensed software iMindMap.

This article attempts to show how the Mind Mapping method can be used in teaching and assessing the effects of education. A mind map is a multifunctional tool that could aid the educational process on many levels. Its formation allows for greater creativity and multidirectional thinking, which has a positive effect on the rate of learning and remembering information. It can also become an innovative way of enhancing teacher’s preparation for lessons and their actual conducting, which helps to pass the knowledge to students in an attractive form. It may also be a method of verifying the student’s knowledge, which really streamlines the process of assessment. Instead of reading long essays, the teacher can have an insight into students’ knowledge and skills at a glance. Four mind maps are presented in the article as examples; the maps were created by students taking an exam in educational transactional analysis. They clearly indicate that a teacher, looking at only one page, which does not take up a lot of time, can analyse the students’ way of thinking as well as identify the areas sufficiently mastered by them and the areas in which they need some improvement.

Mind mapping is primarily a learning technique based on creating pictorial notes (Buzan 2003). In the present article, mind maps were used as a tool for the study of social representations, so as to investigate a broad spectrum of ideas, beliefs, and values related to multilingualism. The study involved a group of French Philology students training to become teachers of the French language, and its aim was to determine the extent to which their initial representations of multilingualism were consistent with the theoretical assumptions of the Council of Europe’s language policy. This policy encourages teachers of foreign languages to develop multilingual competence among students. The analysis of mind maps and the transcription of the group interview leads to the conclusion that the respondents show some areas of ignorance and stereotypical beliefs that should be reflected upon in the course of their further education preparing them to the teaching profession.
