In the article there are discussed the names of modern settlements in Ukraine, motivated by church-Christian vocabulary. It was found out that such an oikonim is formed out of microtoponimes motivated by appellates to denote sacral structures; from the general or proper names that originally indicated the belonging of the object to clerics, on collective names denoting a family, a family, a collection of such persons were named an omonim nickname, surname; from naming the consecrated church or on the occasion of the settlement or its renaming in the time of the church-Christian holiday; from the collective names of persons named for belonging to a particular parish; series of appellates with sacred semantics; from anthroponimes with the original God and so on. It is proved that the oikonimes that explicate the information of the spiritual linguistic and cultural code are equally widespread both in time (from archaic to modern) and in space (throughout the territory of Ukraine). This indicates the continuity of the Ukrainian tradition of naming settlements.

Toponymic space is an expression of the cultural and historical frame. Today, it becomes relevant because we observe the frequent renaming of streets due to changes in political vectors or historical events. The purpose of the article is to provide a comprehensive description of the modern-day hodonyms of the city of Ternopil; the tasks of the research are to carry out a motivational, lexical, semantic-structural analysis of the city’s proper names in the synchronic and functional aspects. Hodonyms have the ability to reflect the ideological policy of the state, the ethnic, economic and cultural specificity of the city. Commemorative names (62%) are the most fully represented in Ternopil’s urbanonymicon. They eloquently convey valuable information about the history and culture of the state in general and the region in particular. According to the semantics of the constituent bases, the hodonyms of the city of Ternopil are divided into homonymous (68%), appellative (29%) and homonymous-appellative (3%) formations. The city’s hodonymicon is characterised by sustainability and a large number of local names. The influence of Soviet and Russian ideologies is minimised, although it is present in several names. The names of Ternopil’s streets reflect Ukrainian realities, meet historical, aesthetic, ethnographic, and cultural criteria, and create an original “face” of the city.

Przestrzeń toponimiczna jest wyróżnikiem ramy kulturowo-historycznej i w czasach współczesnych staje się istotna ze względu na potencjalną zdolność nazw ulic do zmian wraz ze zmianą polityki historycznej. Celem artykułu jest kompleksowy opis współczesnych hodonimów miasta Tarnopola, który został zrealizowany przez przeprowadzenie analizy motywacyjnej, leksykalnej i semantyczno-strukturalnej nazw własnych miasta w aspekcie synchronicznym i funkcjonalnym. Hodonimy odzwierciedlają politykę ideologiczną państwa, specyfikę etniczną, gospodarczą i kulturową miasta. Nazwy pamiątkowe są najpełniej reprezentowane w nazewnictwie Tarnopola (62%). Wymownie niosą cenne informacje o historii i kulturze państwa w ogóle, a regionu w szczególności. Zgodnie z semantyką podstaw składowych, hodonimy Tarnopola dzielą się na formacje onimiczne (68%), odapelatywne (29%) i apelatywno-onimiczne (3%). Nazewnictwo miasta charakteryzuje równowaga oraz duża liczba nazw miejscowych, a wpływ ideologii radzieckiej i rosyjskiej jest zminimalizowany, lecz obecny w kilku nazwach. Nazwy ulic Tarnopola odzwierciedlają ukraińskie realia, spełniają kryteria historyczne, estetyczne, etnograficzne i kulturowe, tworzą oryginalne oblicze miasta.
