Names of dreams in the history of the Polish languageThis article analyzes old names of dreams. During the process of collecting and sorting of the material, etymological data were taken into consideration, which allowed to establish that all the investigated units concentrated around three fields: 1. words with the root: sen/sn-, 2. words with the root: mor-/mar-/marz-, 3. words with the root: widz-. The dominating method in this sketch is the analysis of contexts in which the words within the “dream field” appeared. Considering as evidence the usages of each word recorded in dictionaries of old Polish, I deduce its meaning value in particular periods. Nazwy marzeń sennych w historii języka polskiegoW artykule analizie poddano dawne nazwy marzeń sennych. The article analyzes twenty-four lexical units connected with the collocation “empty babble”. The material collected from all available lexicographic sources has been examined based upon basic images contained in the formal structures of particular names. It has turned out that the grouped units are formed based on six images going back to the Proto-Slavic era. For instance - 1.’something false’, 2.’something foolish’, 3.’something empty’, 4.’something braided’, 5.’something uttered in fever’, 6.’something as trivial as a fart’. Non official names of secondary schools This article registers and describes non oficial names of secondary schools, made by teenage community. Analysed lexical innovations reveal affinity to the group, which uses “its” language called by linguists youth slang, sociolekt, pupils or teenage lingo or pupils jargon. Examined formative neologisms reflect general development tendencies of the language – tendency for efficiency, which is realised in tendency for using acronims and tendency for creating expressive forms. The article emphasises that non oficial names are created not only for naming purposes but mainly pragmatic ones. In the thesis few reflections are shown which are linked to correctness of analysed secondary names, as there are doubts as to the correctness of their spelling and lexical-semantic cohesion.

In the article, the olden names of daglock from 15th to 19th century timeline were analysed and collected from all available lexicographical sources. The material was ordered based upon the ‘word-form’ structure and the etymology of researched appellations. It turned out that particular units were created in correlation with four primary senses such as: 1. ‘the symptoms of syphilis’, 2. ‘the place of epidemic pandemic’, 3. ‘the carrier with syphilis’, 4. ‘mythological creature causing syphilis’. Among forty two investigated units, currently only two are preserved: kiła and tryper. It can be acknowledged that the main causes of this phenomenon are medicine evolution and inhibition of the epidemic of syphilis as a primary principle of medical intervention. The dominating factor in this sketch is the analysis of contexts in which they were situated. The author examines the names with the meaning ‘syphilis’ in the history of the Polish language. The basic part of the article is devoted to the nature and the modalities of use of eponyms, whereby terminological problems are also touched upon – preferably against the background of a contrastive analysis, which is also only implicit. In this context, a consistent differentiation is made between eponyms and deonyms in order to accommodate the disambiguation needs of the former in German. The use of deonyms will be exemplified primarily on the basis of scientific and culinary terminology, where deonyms (in part) perform different functions in each case.

The article is devoted to an analysis of adjective-substantive transition-type phrases in Ukrainian texts from the 16th-18th centuries. On a scale of combinatorial semantics, these phrases are positioned between free phrases and idioms. It is imperative to study the transitional type of ACCs. In the course of describing system connections in a language, it is of importance to identify not only a system’s stability clarity but also its contradictions, inconsistencies and ambiguities. Composite ACCs can be divided into two groups: compositional and de-compositional. The compositional group can be further divided into compositionally free vs. lingual non-free and compositionally non-free vs. lingual free. The latter are divided into nominations, etiquette, clichés, traditional and stereotypical epithets.

The article deals with derivation phenomena, receiving a graphic design with the help of a hyphen. Among such composite words binomials – a fusion of composited and complex words, and the holophrasis – the stand out in the contraction of phrases and sentences into some semblance of words. Examples of those and others are today in everyday speech. These constructs implement the potency of a word-formation language system that has already been used in poetic speech. The authors show that word-fusion has migrated into the discourse of the Internet, where it successfully performs several functions: visualizing complex ideas, nominating and evaluating objects, phenomena, situations, events, and concepts; and defining complexes, ultimately indicating certain concepts will eventually merge into a single word because the words in the text have become in some sense conditional.

In the article herein the thirty-four lexical units were undertaken and analysed thoroughly which maintained the old- and middle-Polish appellations of baking products – pastries. Stemming from the etymology, the motivation was investigated, the meaning and the semantic changes in the gathered texts of words were also scrutinized and put under the magnifying glass. It was evidenced that the nomination of investigated names of ‘baked cakes’ consisted of six general functions such as: 1. literal character of particular cake; 2. indication of its main baking ingredients; 3. the form of it; 4. origin of a cake; 5. increase of ‘favourable of a cake’ by a referral to the authority; 6. correlation of the particular cake with its rites and holidays (during which the pastries were served) (sic!). Most frequently the old names of ‘baked goodies’ were made as simple associations and were coupled with particular shape of the bake.

In our publication we try to characterize some ways of nominating watches and give examples of the names of those devices created on the basis of oikonyms. In the introduction we cite the definitions of transonymization, quoting the statements of famous linguists, eg A.V. Superanska, N.V. Podolska, D. Latypov, as one of the ways of creating proper names. Subsequently, we discuss some of the names of watches extracted from the collection of over 1000 such onims. Finally, we present the results of research that show that the names of the watches created on the basis of the oikonyms reflect the cultural phenomena taking place in a given area in different historical epochs and that they reflect the current trend of naming.
