EN
Austria is a member of the European Union which since 1955 has maintained the status of permanently neutral power. Over the years, this neutrality retained a different character, evolving due to the changing political order in Europe after the Second World War and the role that Austria has played on the international arena. Austria’s integration process with Europe and its gravity towards Unions were profoundly important in the redefinition of neutrality, or consequently gradual abandoning the neutrality status by the Austrian state. The principle of Austria’s permanent neutrality and its policy today significantly differ from those that the Second Republic adopted along with the constitutional resolution in 1955.
