The topic of the paper is the interpretation of the motivation for the personal names of certain mythological beings in curses and phrases of Slavic peoples. Curses, as well as certain phraseologisms,  can  preserve  the  names  long-forgotten  in  the  mythical  and  religious  systems. However,  due  to  their  lapidarity  and  lack  of  ritual  context,  these  names  create  the opportunity  for  different  interpretations.  The  paper  analyzes  the  meanings  of  names,  with a mythological connotation: Maren, Ivan/Jovan,Andjelija,Jana/Janja, and Vid/Vidok.

Attention is also drawn to the transition of anthroponyms with the suffixes in question from the patronymic to the structural surnames category, which was probably associated with the ennoblement of surnames that was observed in that period not only in Poznań alone.

The article analyses the functioning of the proper personal name Žofie and its variants in the Czech anthroponymy. These names can be used either independently as a single first name, or as a part of a double name, which can consist of two independent first names or these two names can be hyphenated. Among the studied names there are both variants with a long tradition of performance in the Czech environment, and variants that have appeared recently. In the article, attention is paid to the inventory of the names, as well as to their origin and peculiarities of their functioning in modern Czech anthroponymy. The analysis looks into the frequency of their use, dynamics, and popularity, both in general and in particular cases of naming newborns.
