Poniższy artykuł został napisany na kanwie książki Wojciecha W. Gasparskiego Filozofia praktyczności. Traktat o Kotarbińskim oraz similaria (Wyd. IFiS PAN, Warszawa 2021). Problematyka traktatu W. Gasparskiego o Kotarbińskim rozciąga się wzdłuż czterech linii problemowych, przekraczających w wielu miejscach dotychczasowe podziały wewnątrz nauk filozoficznych: a) T. Kotarbiński jako twórca prakseologii między polem badawczym a samodzielną gałęzią nauk filozoficznych; b) prakseologia w gąszczu metodologii i jako heurystyczne jądro dyscyplin naukowych; c) ewolucja filozoficznej refleksji Kotarbińskiego – od materialności przedmiotów do realnej nośności znaczeniowej słów; d) wzajemne sytuowanie się dyscyplin humanistycznych – pozycja między logiką i etyką a pytanie o możliwość szczęścia zarówno u abstrakcyjnego, jak i konkretnego człowieka. Teksty T. Kotarbińskiego mimo niekiedy operowania wyjątkowo prostym językiem rozrastały się i ewoluowały jak system, co pokazali zwłaszcza jego następcy, w tym W. Gasparski w przywołanym traktacie. Każde z dołączonych w drugiej części książki similariów skłania do wielu żywiołowych refleksji, a zatem może stanowić przyczynek do przygotowania kolejnych studiów i napisania nawet kilku obszernych traktatów.

The paper is written on the margin of Wojciech W. Gasparski’s book Filozofia praktyczności…. [Philosophy of Practicality. A Treatise on the Philosophy of Tadeusz Kotarbiński and similaria], Wydawnictwo IFiS PAN: Warszawa 2021 (the English version of the Part Four of the Treatise, is reedited in this Volume of “Prakseologia”, see pp. 17–36). Gasparski’s Treatise on Kotarbiński focuses four problem areas, in many places transcending the existing divisions within philosophical sciences: a) created by Kotarbiński praxiology: something between the research area and an distinct subdiscipline of philosophical sciences; b) praxiology as the heuristic core of scientific disciplines, and its methodological dilemas; c) the evolution of Kotarbiński’s concepts of theoretical philosophy: from reism to concretism; d) praxiology between logic and ethics, and the problem of happiness (in its general and concrete dimension). The Kotarbiński’s philosophical path has been shown especially in the works of his successors, including – in the area of practical philosophy or “philosophy of practicality” – contribution of Gasparski in the discussed Treatise. Each of the similaria added in the second part of the book provokes many lively reflections, and therefore may inspire the creation of further studies and the writing of even other voluminous treatises.

The text is dedicated to the Polish School of Praxiology, founded primarily by Tadeusz Kotarbiński. The aim of the article is to present an outline of the history of the School, to review the scientific contribution of its main representatives, and to indicate its essential features. The School connects praxiology sensu scricto (theory of action), ethics, together with felicitolology, within the framework of practical philosophy. Kotarbiński’s concept of praxiology can be described as “small philosophy” in contradistinction to many 19th-century all-encompassing syntheses, which were often substitutes of worldviews; in the interpretation of Wojciech W. Gasparski this concept is also called “philosophy of practicality.” In the article, the Polish School of Praxiology is compared in some aspects with the Lvov-Warsaw School and the Austrian School of Economics (more precisely, with the philosophical foundations of the latter school).

The paper is a new edition of a Part Four of A Philosophy of Practicality. A treatise on the Philosophy of Tadeusz Kotarbiński (1st edition: Helsinki 1992). The text is devoted to the methodology of practical sciences and terminological issues, including the very notion of practical disciplines (or sciences/arts), the concepts of design (project) and design-making, and the specificity of scientific statements in this research area. The subject of the discussion is, in particular, Kotarbiński’s concepts presented in the chapter „Practical knowledge” (Part V, Chapter 5) of the opus Gnosiology.

Tekst stanowi nowe wydanie czwartej części traktatu A Philosophy of Practicality. A Treatise on the Philosophy of Tadeusz Kotarbiński (1. publ.: Helsinki, 1992, w ramach serii „Acta Philosophica Fennica”). Poświęcony jest metodologii nauk praktycznych oraz zagadnieniom terminologicznym, w tym pojęciu dyscyplin praktycznych (lub nauk/umiejętności), pojęciom projektu i projektowania oraz specyfice zdań naukowych formułowanych w ramach dyscyplin praktycznych. Omawiane i rozwijane są w szczególności koncepcje Kotarbińskiego przedstawione w rozdziale „Wiedza praktyczna” (cz. V, rozdz. 5) dzieła Elementy teorii poznania, logiki formalnej i metodologii nauk (w przekł ang.: Gnosiology). Traktat Wojciecha Gasparskiego ukazał się również w języku polskim w książce: Filozofia praktyczności. Traktat o filozofii Tadeusza Kotarbińskiego oraz similaria, Warszawa: Wydawnictwo IFiS PAN 2021 (część czwarta: s. 101–114).
