Articulation of ideological and political position gains special importance in the conditions of cleavage. Structuring of a cleavage and political behavior distinctive to it are to some – albeit considerable – extent dependent on coherent and well-organized political expression of beliefs and postulates, addressed to certain social groups. It is an important role of party manifestos to organize relations between parties and their widely understood socio-political environment. On that account searching for traces of cleavage politics in party manifestos is so important, because some of the statements contained in such documents gain specific sense just in the conditions of cleavage. The aim of this paper is to deliver some research guidelines for those political science studies that aim at identification of traces of cleavage politics in party manifestos, especially bearing in mind Polish political conditions. The study was prepared on the basis of criteria derived from theories of socio-political cleavages, as well as theoretical criteria concerning the functions of party manifestos, integrating dispersed theoretical knowledge and empirical findings. The article points to crucial methodological and theoretical assumptions, as well as directions of research on cleavage politics in matters set in the title of the paper.

Tekst ma na celu przeanalizowanie natury stosunku polskich partii do przeszłości. Pokazanie inspiracji ideologicznych, ale również wzorców zachowań, które można dostrzec w polskich partiach działających po 1989 roku, a które bardziej lub mniej świadomie zostały „zapożyczone” od ugrupowań funkcjonujących w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym i w okresie PRL-u. Są to nawiązania zarówno do tradycji demokratycznej, jak i autorytarnej. Przedmiotem analizy zostały nie tylko formalne deklaracje ideowe partii, wypowiedzi polityków, propozycje rozwiązań ustrojowych, ale również szeroko rozumiana praktyka polityczna. Tekst ma pomóc znaleźć odpowiedzi na pytanie, w jakim stopniu tradycja polityczna może być pomocna w kształtowaniu tożsamości politycznej współczesnych partii, do jakich elementów historii nawiązują najczęściej polskie ugrupowania po 1989 roku oraz scharakteryzować podejście partii do tradycji i sposobu jej wykorzystywania w rywalizacji politycznej.

This paper investigates political parties’ attitudes towards the past. It explores the ideological inspirations and patterns of behavior of the parties founded in Poland after 1989, which were more or less consciously ‘borrowed’ from the political groups operating in the interwar and Communist periods respectively. The parties have been found to draw both upon democratic and authoritarian traditions. In addition to examining the ideological declarations and public utterances made by politicians, and proposals for systemic solutions, the paper also looks at political practice in the broad sense. The aim of this work is to determine how political traditions could help to shape the political identities of contemporary parties and to identify the historical references favored by political groups in post 1989 Poland. It portrays the political parties’ stances on tradition and shows how they are used in political rivalry.

The aim of the researchs were to verify the conservative discourse of the Confederation of Liberty and Independence, a political party registered before the parliamentary elections in Poland in 2019. The research period covered the years 2019-2023. The political programs of the parties were the subject of the research. It was considered reasonable to answer the following questions: 1) what is a conservative discourse?; 2) what are the characteristics of the Confederation’s conservative discourse? The research procedure uses discourse analysis, which allows for the reconstruction of the axiological system, but also for the search for hidden assumptions of the text.

Celem badań była weryfikacja konserwatywnego dyskursu Konfederacji Wolność i Niepodległość, partii politycznej zarejestrowanej przed wyborami parlamentarnymi w Polsce w 2019 r. Okres badawczy objął lata 2019-2023. Przedmiotem badań były programy polityczne. Za zasadne uznano odpowiedź na pytania: 1) czym jest dyskurs konserwatywny?; 2) jakie są cechy konserwatywnego dyskursu Konfederacji? W procedurze badawczej zastosowano analizę dyskursu, która pozwala na rekonstrukcję systemu aksjologicznego, ale też i na poszukiwanie ukrytych założeń tekstu, którego twórcą jest podmiot polityczny.

Vox, a new old fashioned radical right in Spain

The rapid emergence of political party Vox on the stage of the European radical right and its consolidation as the third most voted political party in Spain has raised a debate about where to locate this political formation ideologically on the map of the European radical right. This article addresses this issue through a qualitative analysis of its party manifestos and discourse, and the revision of the winning formula theory formulated by Herbert Kitschelt. The research results demonstrate that Vox is a radical right party that fits the core features of the radical right family. Its political discourse and political proposal are based on a combination of nationalism articulated through the defence of the integrity of the Spanish Nation, an authoritarian view of the society attached to the values of law and order, a defence of the traditional values and economic agenda with neoliberal component. All these factors make Vox a particular member of this party family within the European context. Vox´s political proposal, with authoritarian position in the political and neoliberal economy, distances it from the majority of the current radical right, which has abandoned the radical anti-statism of the eighties to adopt the so-called Welfare Chauvinism. Vox´s political project moves it closer to the position occupied during the eighties and nineties by radical right formations and the position currently occupied by the Portuguese party Chega, with whom Vox shares a similar political trajectory.

Nagłe pojawienie się partii politycznej Vox na scenie europejskiej radykalnej prawicy i jej konsolidacja jako trzeciej najczęściej wybieranej partii politycznej w Hiszpanii, wywołało debatę na temat tego, gdzie ideologicznie ulokować tę formację polityczną na mapie europejskiej radykalnej prawicy. Niniejszy artykuł podejmuje tę kwestię poprzez jakościową analizę partyjnych manifestów i dyskursu oraz rewizję teorii formuł wygrywających Herberta Kitschelta. Wyniki badania pokazują, że Vox jest partią radykalnie prawicową, której profil pasuje do podstawowych cech rodziny radykalnie prawicowej. Dyskurs polityczny Vox i program polityczny opierają się na połączeniu nacjonalizmu wyrażonego poprzez obronę integralności narodu hiszpańskiego, autorytarny pogląd na społeczeństwo przywiązane do wartości prawa i porządku, obronę tradycyjnych wartości i program gospodarczy z wkomponowanym wyraźnym komponentem neoliberalnym. Czyni to Vox szczególnym członkiem rodziny prawicowych partii radykalnych w kontekście europejskim. Propozycja polityczna Vox opierająca się na autorytarnej pozycji w polityce i neoliberalnej ekonomii, różni ją od większości obecnej radykalnej prawicy, która porzuciła radykalny antyetatyzm lat osiemdziesiątych na rzecz tzw. szowinizmu dobrobytu. Polityczny projekt Vox zbliża ją do pozycji zajmowanej w latach osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych przez radykalnie prawicowe formacje oraz pozycji zajmowanej obecnie przez portugalską partię Chega, z którą Vox dzieli podobną trajektorię polityczną.

The aim of the article is to compare the discipline of political marketing with the commercial marketing. It is also an attempt to outline the domain of political marketing. It is argued that despite some essential differences, the area of interest of the political marketing is very similar to the field of economical marketing. Nevertheless the elements of the marketing mix shell be understood differently. There is no price ascribed to the political product. Neither the placement/ distribution nor the product can be perceived in the same way as in commercial marketing.
