The author of this article analyses The Stone, a play by Marius von Mayenburg, a renowned and highly acclaimed German playwright, dramatist and director. He perceives this work as a reckoning with Germany’s national so-cialist past. Through the prism of three generations of the Heising family, Mayenburg exposes the mechanisms at work in the creation of a family legend (“we are decent people; we were never Nazis; we helped the Jewish people”), which turns out to be merely a product of distortion and misrepresentation of historical truth, and an attempt to avert the blame.

The advancement of humanity has culminated in artificial intelligence and it cannot do without the measurement of time and the existence of different calendars, such as the one used today, which has notable religious influences. Starting from a reflection on the relationship among artificial intelligence, the fundamental right of religious freedom, and the various types of calendars, the study focuses on highlighting the religious influences which are inside the calendar used throughout the world, their months and days. This calendar is based on the Roman calendar, which was reformed by Julius Caesar, and corrected centuries later, by the reform carried out by Pope Gregory XIII. This is followed by a brief exposition of a purely religious calendar such as the Muslim one, as well as the frustrated attempts to establish secular calendars during the French and Russian revolutions, in the 18th and 20th centuries, respectively

The paper discusses polarised public debates in the media that deal with the category of Polishness and with the role model of a Pole and a patriot in the context of the reckoning with the Polish-Jewish past. This problem is illustrated by the case of a debate on Władysław Pasikowski’s film Aftermath in 2012. The aim of the study is to reconstruct the dynamics of a media debate and the strategies in public discourse that regulate, intensify or suppress a dispute over the so called difficult past. The study questions the condition of contemporary media debates and their productivity and it discusses symptomaticity of the references in the debate to the category of Polishness towards the tensions and divisions in Polish society. The present argumentation is based on the discourse analysis carried out on the corpus of 54 articles from the Polish press.
