This article develops a critical understanding of "Islamic tourism" how this idea is created and maintained. Drawing on both historical and contemporary perspectives, the paper connects Islamic tourism to key concepts relating to globalisation, mobility, new consumerism in tourist industry, and contemporary changes in Muslim world. It examines how the Islamic tourism is formed from an economic, cultural and religious points of view and offers an explanation of how Islamic tourism relates to the contemporary of the global and Near East countries politics. It also considers a historical tradition in "Islamic traveling" in medieval time and shows how a strong dependency of "Islamic tourism" and Muslim religion is present in practice. The position of women and men in a tourism space of "Islamic tourism" is considered supperted by cases from Egypt and Turkey. The author stresses that "Islamic tourism" builds a basis for a new forms of tourism, where religion plays very important role. It can bring a new input to stabilization of international tourist industry, and enriches the global tourist landscape.
