The article signals the problems of a complex influence that professional work, one of the key values, has over one’s personal life. This issue seems to be the common area of scientific research for both pedagogy and sociology. Based on the EU27 as well as on Polish research results, a thesis has been formulated that professional work may nowadays be a threat to the functioning of the family.

In recent years Poland has been undergoing rapid socio-cultural changes. Along with these changes one can observe a systematic decline in the importance of religious life. This leads to reflection on the direction and depth of transformations, and consequently on the place of religion in the life of future generations. The study attempts to statistically present the religious situation of the inhabitants of Cieszyn Silesia. This is a very specific region mainly due to the diversity of confessions. Historical conditions, as well as the current religious structure make this subject difficult to study, but at the same time very interesting. For a more complete picture, the data from the beginning of the 20th century, as well as from the present day, were used.

Discusses typological characteristics of the modern Russian society. Mod- ern Russian society «mixed» company with elements of oligarchic capitalism, liberal capitalism and socialism. From the point of view of the interests of the majority of Russian citizens, «the ideal» was the synthesis of the positive aspects of different models: high social guarantees, civil liberties, efficient economy, the responsible state. As an engine of progressive transformations can be considered a different kind of elite.

The way people with disabilities function in society - people with higher requirements for readaptation - follow the times, but does it keep up with them? Otherness ceases to be something strange, it slowly becomes normal, but not for everyone. Support for disabled people by the state and social favor eliminate many barriers, and most importantly - the mental border, but is it up to the expectations? We constantly strive for modernity and progress, to change reality, and we cannot identify ourselves with people of special concern, as if the topic of disability did not concern modernity and sustainable human development. In the article, the author tries to come closer to the answers to two questions related to disability. Are people with disabilities in Poland "other" people and do these people find the expected support in the law and how does the law treat such people - inevitably, severely, or perhaps indulgently? The author's assumption is, first of all, to indicate the essence and importance of an important issue, and to leave room for own research.

The metaphorical table and a psychological description of love in Ortega y Gasset can be heard to some degree in the "Hymn about love" written by apostle Paul in the Letter to the Corinthians (1 Cor.13,1-13). Both these images are about a very lofty idea which is far away from everyday life. Love is not idyllic, and it often requires sacrifice and devotion.

South Africa has undergone significant political change since the first democratic election in 1994. Like Eastern Europe after democratization, there has been an increase in crime following democracy. The initial government reaction was to deny that the problem was getting out of hand. Continued public pressure brought about a change in government’s stance on crime. While the crime debate was going on a political battle within the ruling African National Congress was raging that led to the ousting of President Mbeki and the final outcome was victory for Dr Jacob Zuma. The change in presidency also brought a tougher attitude against crime. The police department known as the Department of Safety and Security was changed to the Department of Police. Very tough statements were made by politicians such as referring to criminals as “bastards’ and “shoot the bastards.” This article argues that police officers of particular upbringing may misinterpret these statements and end up in abusing human rights. The article argues for a new theoretical theory called “Reciprocal Moral Dualism” which suggests that society prepares police officers for internalised control and respect for human rights or the opposite. The fact of the matter is that what society provides in moral fibre, must be evidenced by good cop behaviour and the police must not desocialise and resocialise the new recruits with conflicting morality. The paradox is obvious. If poorly socialised individuals join the police, the chances are high that they will spread their inapt behaviour and corrupt others.

The article aims to show the innovative role of dialogue in the implementation of the idea of sustainable development. Dialogue takes the form of a balanced dialogue as a tool for changing society. It is built on philosophical, psychological, social and pedagogical concepts. This wide-ranging dialogue takes on a completely new form, addressing the goals of sustainable development. A balanced dialogue creates a network of connections and interactions between people, thus creating the principle of coexistence based on the process of awareness. As far as elementary education is concerned, it is a didactic method which affects the young generation, which sows its influence on a macro scale, ie society. The proposed method of balanced dialogue is an author's method that is in the process of experimental verification, therefore empirical observations are based on previous research findings. Sustainable dialogue as a tool for changing society is a real hope for our world, as I show in the article.

The material is based on the reports published by the European Committee and country strategy papers.

The text is devoted to the political culture of the Polish society after 1989. To show its specificity, the historic models of the political culture of the Polish society were referred to: both from the period of the First Republic of Poland and from the time of the People’s Republic of Poland. From the historic perspective a thesis is put forward that new significant phenomena emerged in the political culture of the Polish society after 1989. Certain values and behaviour models stimulate reforms of the system and favour the shaping of consolidated democracy, while others have a dysfunctional impact. On the example of trust in public institutions it may be stated that changes in the political culture took place within the axiological and the evaluative-affective components. The citizens’ expectations towards politicians rose and their criticism in assessing them increased. This might be a factor stimulating the improvement of the quality of democracy. For some time, a certain crisis of public confidence could be seen in the Polish parliamentary system. This is the more negative side of the ongoing processes. This does not mean, however, that the Polish society rejects pluralist democracy with its mechanisms. A huge part of the political elites is negatively assessed. In the opinion of many citizens they do not fulfill the standards required by the well-developed parliamentary democracy. The role of the new media in political communication is increasing and this will be a factor influencing the political culture. New opportunities should potentially favour the processes of improving the functioning of the democratic system, e.g. by stimulating the public debate. At the moment, however, it is more likely that the increasing use of the Internet in the field of politics as well as the development of the political culture will follow the scenario called technorealism. The people who are active in a variety of domains of social life, involving the field of politics, and who use the Internet will have greater and better opportunities to both obtain and create the information concerning politics. The people who are not very active and who are not interested in politics will not be encouraged by the Internet either to get interested in this field of social life or to participate therein. Besides, a considerable group of citizens still does not use the Internet. It may be called a group of digital marginalization. For them the opportunities of political information and participation provided by the new media are still Utopia.

The paper is aimed at fiction as a content part of Slovak education system. Explication frame of the paper is not didactical, but literary: based on the constructivic theory of S.J. Schmidt it reflects literature as a social system within another social system (education). Paying attention to secondary grammar schools, the author observes a basic principle of literary education planning in official documents. Nowadays the principle is literary theory and it has replaced the long lasting principle of literary history. The author discusses results of the change, which have not met reform authors expectations. The next area of the paper is connection between teaching literature and formative goals of educational system.

People considered to be cultural animators represent very diverse professions and social groups. They may have different approaches to culture, but usually their aim is similar – i.e. to prompt and inspire people to be culturally active. Publicly funded cultural animation projects often are not available to members of all social classes or are too focused on so-called “propagating the culture”. However, there are a number of projects, organisations and cultural animators, who operate outside the system, creating a space where people can participate in culture and work together.

The political regime in the state depends not only on the balance of political forces in the society, political relations, means and methods of realizing power, relations between state and society, but also from the state of political culture as a national leader and ruling elite, and the population. The cooperation of citizens with power in post-totalitarian states symbolizes the democratic character of the country. In post-totalitarian political cultures, the concept of citizenship is associated with a sense of belonging and identification with the state. The characteristic type of political culture of society contributes to the establishment of a certain political regime, supports its stable functioning. A regime that contradicts the established norms and values of the political culture of the population cannot function effectively and exercise political power in a society.

New phenomena have appeared in the political culture of the Polish society and they have both good and bad sides. The role of the new media in political communication is growing and this is going to be a factor affecting political culture. The new possibilities should potentially facilitate the processes of improving the way of the functioning of the democratic system, if only through stimulating the public debate. However, at present it is more likely that the growth of the Internet use in the sphere of politics and the development of political culture will proceed according to a scenario called technorealism. The possibilities of the Internet, on the other hand, will not make people who are not very active and who are not interested in politics get interested in this sphere of social life and participate in it. Besides, a considerable part of the citizens do not use the Internet. This group can be called a group of digital marginalization. For them, the possibilities of information and political participation created by the new media are still a utopia.

Introduction to the essay cluster "Theater and Communitas."

Considering world’s social and ethical problems, it is unavoidable to omit the area of medical issues in which biological and therapeutic revolution took place. Pope John Paul II points out indirectly that doctor–patient relationship should be held with the respect for ethical and legal requirements because of human dignity, which is the principle, cause, goal and sense of all reality. In order to arrange the interrelation between the doctor and the patient in an appropriate way, it is necessary to build bonds between them. Those bonds create patient’s and doctor’s participation in the process of medical treatment. The aim of this article is to present some aspects of Personalism by John Paul II (social doctrine of the Church) in patient–doctor relationship. The main reference point for considering aspects of patient–doctor relationship is the communitarian dimension of human being as a person in Karol Wojtyła’s philosophy.
