The article discusses the new tasks related to working with readers in the Collection Access Department of the UMCS Main Library, which have been implemented with the Alma system. It demonstrates the changes in the rules of the collection sharing, and discusses the issues connected with the librarians’ job responsibilities and job requirements after the system implementation.

The article discusses problems surrounding access to the collections of the library and the archives of St. John Church in Leszno. These resources, historically important for the history of the town, the Unity of the Bohemian Brethren as well as the history of the protestant movement in Poland and Europe, have been a significant source on the relevant topics for researchers since the eighteenth century. In the nineteenth century, following the development of the research into the life and the output of Jan Amos Komensky and the Bohemian Brethren, the need for better access to these materials became more apparent. On the basis of available archival sources from the 19th–20th centuries, the author shows who and for what purpose used the archives and the library collections from the former church of the Bohemian Brethren church in Leszno.

W artykule poruszono problem udostępniania zbiorów archiwum i biblioteki kościoła św. Jana w Lesznie. Zbiory te – o historycznym znaczeniu dla dziejów Leszna, Jednoty Braci Czeskich i historii protestantyzmu w Polsce i Europie – od XVIII wieku budziły zainteresowanie badaczy. W XIX wieku, na fali rozwoju badań nad życiem i dorobkiem Jana Amosa Komeńskiego oraz braćmi czeskimi, wzrosła potrzeba dostępu do tych materiałów. Na podstawie dostępnych źródeł archiwalnych z XIX–XX wieku przedstawiono, kto i w jakim celu korzystał z archiwum i biblioteki ulokowanych na terenie dawnego kościoła braci czeskich w Lesznie.

Wiek XIX przyniósł liczne zmiany w życiu politycznym, społecznym i ekonomicznym, które odcisnęły piętno również na bibliotekach. Widać to zwłaszcza na przykładzie bibliotek od dawna działających, służących zarówno nauce, jak i tak zwanej szerokiej publiczności. Na przykładzie niemieckich bibliotek dworskich, uniwersyteckich i miejskich z lat 1789–1871 pragniemy pokazać, jak zmiany te wpłynęły na stan udostępniania zbiorów. Do typowych problemów na tym polu należały: krótki czas otwarcia bibliotek, wąski, ograniczony do wyższych warstw krąg użytkowników; limitowanie czasu i liczby wypożyczanych jednorazowo książek, czemu winny był szereg czynników, między innymi niedostateczny personel i/lub środki finansowe. Do 1871 r. wpływ na stan udostępniania zbiorów miał nadmierny indywidualizm, brak współpracy, różnorodność rozwiązań organizacyjnych w niemieckich bibliotekach. Świadomość braków i ograniczeń, paradoksalnie, co pokazały następne dziesięciolecia, doprowadziły do podjęcia współpracy na tym polu.

The 19th century brought numerous changes in political, social and economic life, which also left a mark upon libraries. This can be seen especially in the case of libraries that had been operating for a long time, serving both scientists and the so-called general public. Using the example of the German court, university and city libraries of 1789–1871, we will show how these changes influenced the condition of the access to the collections. Typical problems in this field included: short opening times of libraries, a narrow circle of users limited to the upper-class; limiting the time and number of books borrowed at one time, which was caused by a number of factors, including insufficient staff and / or financial resources. Until 1871, the condition of the access to collections was influenced by excessive individualism, a lack of cooperation, and a variety of organizational solutions in German libraries. The awareness of the shortcomings and limitations, as demonstrated by the next decades, paradoxically led to cooperation in this field.

Das 19. Jahrhundert bewirkte zahlreiche Änderungen im politischen, gesellschaftlichen und ökonomischen Leben, die ebenfalls die Bibliotheken beeinflussten. Es ist vor allem am Beispiel der seit langem tätigen Bibliotheken wahrzunehmen, die sowohl der Wissenschaft als auch der Öffentlichkeit dienten. Am Beispiel der deutschen Hof-, Universitäts- und Stadtbibliotheken 1789–1871 wird dargestellt, auf welche Weise diese Änderungen die Bereitstellung von Beständen beeinflusst haben. Zu den typischen Schwierigkeiten in diesem Bereich gehörten: kurze Öffnungszeiten der Bibliotheken, ein enger, nur auf höhere Schichten begrenzter Benutzerkreis, die Begrenzung von der Ausleihzeit und der Anzahl von ausgeliehenen Büchern, was auf eine Reihe von Faktoren zurückzuführen war, u.a. auf die nicht ausreichende Zahl an Mitarbeitern und/oder auf ungenügende Finanzmittel. Die Bereitstellung von Beständen stand bis 1871 unter dem Einfluss vom übermäßigen Individualismus, von fehlenden Kooperationsmöglichkeiten und von der Vielfalt organisatorischer Lösungen in den deutschen Bibliotheken. Das Bewusstsein von Mängeln und Begrenzungen führte überraschenderweise zur Entstehung der Zusammenarbeit, was erst in den darauffolgenden Jahrzehnten zu beobachten war.
