This research addresses the opinions of parents of homeschooled children on the issue of homeschooling. Through both quantitative and qualitative research - a questionnaire with 78 parents of homeschooled children from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, their opinions on the selection of a school for their children, problems in compulsory examination, and the selection of teaching methods and forms were found out. On the basis of the research findings, it was possible to state that criteria for school selection was not related to problems in the compulsory examination of the children, and the pedagogical education of the respondents (parents) did not influence the selection of didactic methods or forms.

Artykuł dotyczy zjawiska edukacji domowej w Polsce. Jest próbą przedstawienia marginalnego w skali ilościowej zjawiska jako interesującego materiału do wyciągania hipotez na temat szerszych zmian zachodzących w społeczeństwie. W tekście przytoczę funkcjonującą w literaturze definicję edukacji domowej, zaznaczę kontekst prawny i historyczny towarzyszący kształtowaniu się tego ruchu oraz opis stanu badań socjologicznych na ten temat. Jednakże najważniejszą częścią artykułu jest próba zinterpretowania tego fenomenu z perspektywy teorii Anthony’ego Giddensa, a szczególnie kategorii zaufania, ryzyka, refleksyjności i systemów eksperckich.

The article is about homeschooling in Poland. I will attempt to present quantitatively small phenomenon that might be crucial for understanding wider social trends and changes. In the article I am going to present what for a homeschoolers is a very popular definition. What is more I will enrich it with a historical and legal context. The article also contains the information about sociological research that was made on this phenomenon in Poland. The most important part, however is an attempt to interpret homeschooling in categories known from Anthony Giddens sociological theory: risk, reflexivity and experts systems.
