Piotr Kubiński’s monograph is an outline of certain specific aspects of video games, examined from the perspective of poetics. Apart from a semiotic analysis of the user interface and a look at how games influence various texts and practices, what the readers will find here is an investigation into the strained relationship between immersion and emersion in video games. Contrary to the popular belief that immersion is unquestionably desirable, Kubiński shows that emersion – a group of phenomena that disrupt the players’ impression of unmediated presence in the game world – can also be a source of ludic and artistic effects that merit a scholarly study. The book offers a well-organized and carefully documented analysis of an understudied dimension of digital games; the tensions between immersion and emersion are present in many, if not all, video games; and the author’s efforts in other publications are making the term “emersion” more visible. For these three reasons, the monograph has the potential to become a significant work in Polish game studies, encouraging other scholars to apply Kubiński’s term in their own research. This would be instrumental in the development of an academic field that has suffered from insufficient accumulation of knowledge.

The design of digital products is a practical activity involving such specialisations as information architecture, user experience, user interface design, and interaction design. These professions have existed for a short time. Their emergence is related to the widespread access to the internet and the use of information and communication technologies. The authors show that the language used by digital product designers in everyday professional activity, and also present in professional publications and training courses, is a professiolect. It is characterised by a small number of native terms and a dominance of terms borrowed from the English language, which is related to the facts that the profession is new, computer applications with English interfaces are used in everyday work, and the companies and projects are international. The paper presents the most important features of the digital product designer professiolect, focusing primarily on vocabulary sources and borrowings. The authors give examples of proper, semantic and structural borrowings selected from the translations of books published from 2012–2019, and from online training courses and job advertisements published between August and November, 2019 on the job websites: Crossjob, Indeed, Praca UX, Praca.pl, and Pracuj.pl.

The article discusses the problem of disrupting access to relevant information on the home pages of selected public institutions. It was presented in the context of the use of the information architect’s workshop by the designers of these websites. It was recognized that information distortions may arise as a result of the conscious operation of the web designer. It can also be a source of unintended distortion of information resulting from lack of competence and professionalism. The aim of the article is to reflect on the problem of information manipulation at the stage of creating electronic sources of information and show the relationship between web designing and shaping the desired image of a public institution and relations with the local community. The article is based on the analysis of selected websites addressed to the inhabitants of the Suski poviat.

W artykule poruszono problem zakłócenia dostępu do relewantnych informacji na stronach domowych wybranych instytucji publicznych. Przedstawiono go w kontekście wykorzystania przez projektantów tych stron warsztatu architekta informacji.
