È ovvio che il cristianesimo introdusse nel vasto campo della sessualità umana e quindi anche nella vita coniugale alcuni valori totalmente differenti rispetto al mondo pagano. Le regole fisse che imponevano la monogamia, la fedeltà coniuga­le, divieto dei divorzi, dell’aborto, dell’omicidio dei neonati suonano chiaramente a partire dai primi scritti cristiani. Giovanni Crisostomo in questo contesto appare come un teologo e predicatore eccellente che conosce e capisce l’importanza della vita matrimoniale e familiare ordinata. In questa vita l’importanza della fedeltà dei coniugi costituisce un elemento fondamentale che va affirmato nell’educa­zione cristiana fin dalla giovinezza. Crisostomo, chiamando la famiglia mikroek­klesia, intruduce nella sua struttura i chiari princípi evangelici e in questo modo costruisce un fondamento forte sotto l’insegnamento cristiano sulla famiglia.

Marital and parental love, as significant values both for particular individuals and for the whole society, require special protection. It is ensured by moral norms, and especially by: premarital chastity, marital fidelity, indissolubility of marriage, and parental responsibility connected with opposition to abortion and contraception. In numerous studies devoted to the attitudes towards marital-familial morality it turns out, however, that a considerable part of the respondents do not accept these norms. This is significant information for pastoral theologians, educationalists, family life counselors and pastors, because the efficiency of the efforts they make requires a diagnosis of the reality they encounter. And the diagnosis, as appears from the empirical research, should incline one not only to make careful educational, but also prophylactic, preventive and re-educational efforts.

Human sexuality is a value of exceptional importance both for particular individuals and society as a whole. Therefore it calls for protection. This protection consists of moral norms that the Catholic Church has clearly and unambiguously exposed in her documents. The mass media, however, advocate permissivism and moral liberalism, materialism, hedonism, and consumerism. They may confuse their recipients with regard to valid norms of sexual behaviour. Approving that man will not be truly happy if he rejects the laws written in his nature by God (HV 31), and assuming responsibility for one's own development and formation of the young generation, we should state that it is extremely needed to remind people of teaching in the sphere of sexual morality. It contains especially hints on premarital chastity, marital faithfulness, and indissolubility of marriage.

In this article I present the evaluations of high school students, college students and teachers of Family Life Education concerning marital love and its conditions, including marital fidelity and betrayal. This presentation is based on the results of two of my sociological studies conducted in 2011 among the students of general and profiled high schools in Kalisz (456) and the students of the University of Communication and Management in Poznań (436) and in 2003 among the teachers of Family Life Education in Kalisz (186). The research was carried out using the diagnostic survey method, with the simultaneous application of the auditory questionnaire technique. The purpose of these surveys was to learn and present the attitudes and evaluations of respondents concerning marital love and its conditions - especially fidelity and betrayal.

W artykule tym ukazuję oceny licealistów, studentów i nauczycieli wychowania do życia w rodzinie dotyczące miłości małżeńskiej i jej uwarunkowań, w tym wierności i zdrady małżeńskiej. Prezentacja ta opiera się na wynikach dwóch moich badań socjologicznych zrealizowanych w 2011 roku wśród uczniów liceów ogólnokształcących i profilowanych w Kaliszu (456) i studentów Wyższej Szkoły Komunikacji i Zarządzania w Poznaniu (436) oraz w 2003 roku wśród nauczycieli wychowania do życia w rodzinie w Kaliszu (186). Badania te zostały zrealizowane metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, z jednoczesnym zastosowaniem techniki ankiety audytoryjnej. Celem ich było poznanie i prezentacja postaw i ocen respondentów dotyczących miłości małżeńskiej i jej uwarunkowań – zwłaszcza wierności i zdrady.

The article presents two kinds of arguments for entering into marriage: natural and supernatural. On the side of nature the most important argument is transmission of life, some kind of mutual life support of the spouses and social order. On the supernatural side the arguments can basically be addressed only to believers. They have the character of God’s promises and spiritual incentive connected with the growth of love as God’s gift, the development of sexuality and the joy of having children, permanence, loyalty and trust in the marriage relationship, learning to forgive and the flourishing of matrimonial freedom. The content of the arguments has remained unchanged for centuries, perhaps new forms of communication need to be found following the principles of the new evangelization.

W niniejszym artykule zostały przedstawione dwa rodzaje argumentów za zawarciem związku małżeńskiego: naturalne i nadprzyrodzone. W porządku naturalnym najważniejsze jest: przekazywanie życia; pewnego rodzaju wzajemne życiowe wsparcie małżonków oraz porządek społeczny. Argumenty dotyczące sfery nadprzyrodzonej mogą być kierowane zasadniczo tylko do ludzi wierzących. Mają one charakter obietnic Bożych i zachęty duchowej związanej z rozwojem miłości jako daru Bożego, dojrzewaniem seksualności oraz radością posiadania dzieci, trwałością, wiernością i zaufaniem w związku małżeńskim, nauką przebaczania i rozkwitem wolności małżeńskiej. Treść argumentów pozostaje od wieków taka sama, być może trzeba szukać nowych form przekazu, zgodnie zasadami nowej ewangelizacji.
