Literary translation plays an important role as a tool in cultural diplomacy. Translation-based activity can therefore be an independent activity within the public service that implements the assumptions of cultural diplomacy defined by Milton C. Cummings. The article analyzes the translation-based activity of the Polish poet Jerzy Pleśniarowicz (1920– 1978) on the basis of the translator’s preserved correspondence with the Belarusian poet Maksim Tank, examining the work strategy and methods used by the translator in relation to the assumptions of the idea of cultural diplomacy.
