The text presents the activity of the University of Children and Parents established by the Pedagogical University of Cracow. The primary aim of the study is to show examples of practices that can become an inspiration for other educational institutions of this type. The first part of the article presents the main goals and principles of the university’s activities and describes the types of meetings for children and their parents, as the means of broadly understood extra-curricular and parental education. In the second part, the author of the paper presents the general idea of the project ‘Artists in the world of pedagogy. The meetings in the field of art, art as a space for shaping cultural and artistic competences of children and youth – educational implications,’ with particular emphasis on the Small Academy of Art, which was created as a part of the project. Students of the University of Children and Parents have an opportunity to participate in the Academy and learn about the richness of Polish culture and art and pursue their creative passions.

Współczesna szkoła ciągle narażona jest na krytykę różnych grup społecznych. Co leży u podstaw niezadowolenia i które aspekty jej funkcjonowania są negatywnie oceniane? By dowiedzieć się, jaki jest wizerunek polskiej szkoły, czy bliżej jej do tradycyjnej czy twórczej, przeprowadzono badania sondażowe wśród przyszłych nauczycieli oraz przeanalizowano publikacje prasy codziennej, blogi i portale internetowe, przeznaczone dla rodziców, w których pojawiały się treści dotyczące współczesnej szkoły. Z przeprowadzonych wywiadów i analizy treści zamieszczanych w mediach wyłania się obraz szkoły bardziej tradycyjnej, niż twórczej. Szkoły, która przekazuje wiedzę, a nie kształtuje umiejętności i postaw. Takiej, w której brak indywidualnego traktowania ucznia, w której nie bierze się pod uwagę jego zainteresowań i potrzeb a dąży do realizowania tego, czego chce nauczyciel oraz regulujące jego pracę podstawy programowe. Szkoły pełnej biurokracji i ciągle zmieniających się przepisów. Takiej, w której nie ma miejsca na twórczą aktywność i kreatywność, gdyż ważniejsze jest terminowe realizowanie programu nauczania.
