It has not been noticed yet that sometimes, usually at the end of the process of development of the legend about the beginnings of an abbey, legends were created about the history of the place where the abbey had been built. The author proposes to call such legends the myths of the foundation place. The abbey on Lysa Gora presents a very interesting example of the formation of a full legend of the origins: it begins with the myth of the foundation place, followed by the foundation myth, and finally the legend of translation of the relics. The author discusses the genesis and development of the myth of the foundation place of the Łysa Góra abbey which he thinks appeared in the 14th or 15th c. and was based on folk legends, and then developed in the second half of the 15th and first half of the 16th c., retaining its vitality still in the 18th c.
