Artykuł jest poświęcony tematyce prezentacji przestrzeni czeskich osiedli mieszkaniowych w wybranych filmach z epoki socjalizmu: Domy z panelů [Domy z wielkiej płyty] (Jiří Menzel, 1959), Moderní byt [Nowoczesne mieszkanie] (Jan Moravec, 1971) oraz Panelstory [Opowieść z wielkiej płyty] (Věra Chytilová, 1979). Filmy są analizowane z uwzględnieniem narzędzi semiotyki tekstu artystycznego, socjologii zamieszkiwania (ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kwestii komfortu) oraz koncepcji korzystania z przestrzeni, opisanej przez Michela de Certeau. Punktem wyjścia rozważań autora są realia czeskiego budownictwa mieszkaniowego w latach 1956–1989. Tekst ma na celu pokazanie, w jaki sposób reżyserzy tworzyli za pomocą technik filmowych obraz życia na socjalistycznym osiedlu.

The article concerns the representation of the space of Czech housing estates in selected films from the socialist era: Domy z panelů [Prefabricated Houses] (Jiří Menzel, 1959), Moderní byt [Modern House] (Jan Moravec, 1971) and Panelstory [Prefab Story] (Věra Chytilová, 1979). The films are analysed taking into account the tools of the semiotics of the artistic text, the sociology of habitation (with a particular emphasis on the issue of comfort) and the concept of using space, described by Michel de Certeau. The point of departure of the study are the realities of Czech housing construction in the years 1956–1989. The article aims is to show how the directors used cinematic techniques to create an image of life in a socialist housing estate.

W artykule dokonano analizy powieści współczesnego czeskiego pisarza Jaroslava Rudiša pt. Aleja Narodowa (2016). Punktem wyjścia analizy jest koncepcja nowoczesności oraz nowoczesnej podmiotowości amerykańskiego filozofa, Marshalla Bermana (2006), który w książce Wszystko, co stałe, rozpływa się w powietrzu (2006) opisał nowoczesność jako proces nieustających przemian rzeczywistości. Autor artykułu rozpatruje czeski system po 1989 roku właśnie jako proces modernizacji, który określone elementy rzeczywistości skazuje na zanik. Korzystając z narzędzi semiotyki dostarczonych przez Jurija Łotmana (1984), analizuje strukturę przestrzeni w utworze. Skupia się także na zagadnieniach męskości, relacji rodzinnych oraz kształtowania podmiotowości w kapitalistycznej nowoczesności. Bohater powieści Aleja Narodowa, kształtujący swoją tożsamość w opozycji do aktualnego modelu nowoczesności ma ograniczone możliwości osiągnięcia podmiotowości. Wyznawane przez niego wartości nie spełniają wymogów aktualnego procesu modernizacji, przez co bohater, podobnie jak zamieszkiwane przez niego osiedle skazany jest na marginalizację.

In this article, the author analyses the novel The National Valley (2016) by the contemporary Czech writer Jaroslav Rudiš. The main argument of the analysis focuses on the concept of modernity and modern subjectivity as outlined by the American philosopher, Marshall Berman, who in his book All That Is Solid Melts into Air (1988) describes modernity as a process of constant changes in reality. The author of the article interprets the Czech capitalist system after 1989 as a process of modernisation that forces certain elements of reality to disappear. Using the tools of semiotics provided by Yuri Lotman (1984), he analyses the structure of space in the novel, whilst also focusing on the issues of masculinity, family relations and subjectivity in capitalist modernity. The protagonist of the novel, shaping his identity in opposition to the current model of modernity, has only limited possibilities of achieving subjectivity. The values he considers important do not fit into the realities of modernity, which means that the protagonist, as well as the milieu he inhabits, is doomed to marginalisation.
