The paper presents an analysis of the findings of the author’s research into the influence of the Wataha movie series, which tells the story of the officers of a Border Guard unit deployed in the Bieszczady Mountains, on the popular awareness of the illegal crossing of the EU borders. In recent years, illegal migrations within the territory of the EU has become common and they are now a problem that also affects Poland. The paper includes conclusions regarding the building of the popular awareness of illegal migrations by means of audiovisual broadcasts which are part of popular culture, using the example of the Wataha movie series.
