The properties of the unusual waters flowing out from several springs in a town of Shklo (pol. Szkło), near Yavoriv (pol. Jaworow), now the territory of Ukraine, were described in details by two physicians in relevant treaties published at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. The works by Wojciech Oczko and Erazmus Sykst concerning the health resort were supposed to popularize among the Polish readers the scholarly medical knowledge within the medicinal use of sulfuric waters. The author of this article attempts to analyze and interpret the content of these publications, paying special attention to their specific recommendations, which concerned the rules of proper use of the medicinal properties of the hot springs in Shklo. These directed to the Old-Polish readers recommendations were inspired by the scholarly knowledge of contemporary medicine, as well as, of the natural philosophy, which was taught in medical faculties of the universities of Padua and Bologna. The above mentioned topics present some specific contexts and various possible motivations of writing treaties regarding the balneology in Central Europe around 1600.

The parish in Klimontów (Diocese of Sandomierz) has an archive, which stores various documents concerning the history of this institution. The materials from this archive were rarely used by historians. Only the ones who dealt with regional history were interested in the above mentioned materials. A parish priest from Klimontów Wawrzyniec Kukliński (1828-1912) published the content of the most important documents in the years 1909-1911. This content was the basis for writing an amateur treatise on the history of the town, where in 1626 the parish was erected. From the beginning of the twentieth century, the documentation stored at the parish church was damaged, some materials were lost. The author therefore undertook the effort to professionally organize the archival materials that are stored in the parish of Klimontów. Two fonds: Documents of the Roman Catholic Parish in Klimontów (documents since 1626) and Parish registers of Klimontów (since 1667) are connected with the parish offi ce. These two fonds were divided into individual archival units, mainly based on chronological criteria. Apart from the materials closely related to the activities of the parish, the archive includes an incomplete collection of the documents which belonged to the monastery of the Dominicans in Klimontów. That collection was brought to the parish archive in unclear circumstances, possibly just after the dissolution of the monastery in 1901. It is a closed fond, which includes diverse documents from the years 1418-1863. It should be noted that this fold also contains a signifi cant number of documents relating to the salaries of the parish in Olbierzowice, the patronage of which was granted to the monastery of the Dominicans under Jan Zbigniew Ossoliński’s foundation privilege of 1613.The parish archive also includes the books which are the remnants of the once prosperous parish library.

Tekst omawia proces instalowania w przestrzeni miejskiej Lwowa oświetlenia gazowego oraz budowę i późniejsze modernizacje gazowni. Historię przemysłu gazowniczego we Lwowie charakteryzują podobne zjawiska społeczne i gospodarcze jak w przypadku innych miast austro-węgierskich i niemieckich (konflikty inwestora z miejskim samorządem i odbiorcami gazu, komunalizacja gazowni). Lwowskie gazownictwo na tle innych miast wyróżnia użycie nietypowych surowców do produkcji gazu (drewna, a później olejów naftowych) oraz stosunkowo późno występujący wzrost produkcji (po 1898 r.), będący skutkiem większej dostępności gazu zarówno dla miasta, jak i prywatnych odbiorców. The text discusses the installation of gas lighting in the urban space of Lviv, together with the construction and later modernisations of the city’s gasworks. The history of gas industry in Lviv is characterised by social and economic phenomena similar to those of other Austro-Hungarian and German cities (conflicts between the investor, municipal government, and gas consumers, communalisation of the gasworks). What distinguishes the gas supply system of Lviv from those of other cities was the use of non-standard resources to gas production (wood, and then petroleum oils), and a relatively late rise in production (after 1898), resulting from the increased availability of gas to both the city, and private users.
