This article aims to verify the hypothesis that two Polish opinion-forming weeklies in their publications concerning the dispute over the public service media in Poland used different conceptual frameworks. Articles of two weeklies, Polityka and Do Rzeczy, published within the first half of 2016 were analysed. In this regard the hypothesis was refuted. Both weeklies applied very similar, but not identical frameworks.

The purpose of this article was to examine if both types of social associations, as proposed by Michael Oakeshott, had been present in the chosen publications of Polityka weekly magazine. First the main characteristics of journalist messages were described. An important part of these characteristics applies to relations between journalists and politicians and between journalists and the idea of common good. On this basis four different concepts of journalism were distinguished. The analysis revealed that both types of associations could be identified in the journalists’ messages, and that the differences between these associations were significant.

The press law requires the journalist to follow the editorial line. However, attempts to find a clearly formulated editorial line, sought after on the websites of press titles, did not provide unequivocal results. Public opinion polls were only indirectly related to the editorial line. Therefore, the statements of journalists remained to be examined. They have been referred to four normative journalistic social roles. Most often, the role of the reporter and advocate was mentioned, and the role of a debater or moderator of the discussion was the least frequently stated.

Contemporary election campaigns are not limited to formally determined periods. This article is based on the assumption that local authorities conduct continuous cam-paigns to canvass for votes. The intention of this article was to check how local authori-ties had justified controversial political decisions. The content of three local weeklies from Podkarpackie voivodship coming from two periods of four weeks in May-June and October-November 2012 was analysed. It was discovered that all four categories of justifying controversial political decisions were present in the publications of each weekly.
