Artykuł, będący równocześnie wstępem książki, podejmuje tematykę szeroko rozumianego bezpieczeństwa kulturowego na pograniczu, które zdaje być się obszarem badawczym,a co ważniejsze przede wszystkim praktycznym, nie do końca identyfikowanym na początku drugiej dekady XXI wieku w sposób właściwy. Wychodząc bowiem z definicji kultury, jako rzeczywistości wszechogarnianej (w tym rozumieniu nic poza kulturą się nie znajduje), ogół praktyk sektorowych (zdrowie publiczne, zagrożenia terrorystyczne i inne) stanowią przejaw zespołu praktyk decydujących o kondycji kultury jako takiej. Bezpieczeństwo jest w ostatnich czasach odmieniane w każdym możliwym przypadku, osobie i liczbie, zaś początek 2020,przynoszący pandemię związaną z koronawirusem, uświadamia skalę nie tylko zagrożenia zdrowotnego, ale ukazuje przede wszystkim wpływ i związek problemu z tkanką kulturową między innymi w postaci globalnego, regionalnego i lokalnego lęku.

The article, which is also the introduction to the book, deals with the subject of broadly understood cultural security on the border, which seems to be a research area, and more importantly, a practical one, not fully identified at the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century in a proper way. Starting from the definition of culture as an all-encompassing reality (in this sense there is nothing other than culture), the totality of sectoral practices (public health, terrorist threats and others) are a manifestation of a set of practices that determine the condition of culture as such. In recent times, security has changed in every possible case, person and number, and the beginning of 2020, which brings about the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, not only makes people aware of the scale of the health threat, but also shows the impact and relationship of the problem with the cultural tissue in the form of global, regional and local anxiety.

Fuzzy Identities. Cultural Identity of the Polish-German Borderland in the 21st Century: An OutlineThis text is an attempt to summarize the three decades (1989–2019) of NGO activity in the broadly understood Polish-German borderland, with a particular emphasis on the area of the so-called Central Nadodrze. Two organizations, The Society of Witnica’s Friends and the daughter organization of the Polish-German Educatio Association “Pro Europa Viadrina,” were chosen as an exemplification of a certain way of coping with cultural reality, also in the historical aspect in the border area. Tożsamości rozmyte. Tożsamość kulturowa pogranicza polsko-niemieckiego w XXI wieku. Zarys problemówNiniejszy tekst stanowi próbę podsumowania trzech dekad (1989–2019) działalności organizacji pozarządowych na szeroko rozumianym pograniczu polsko-niemieckim, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem obszaru tzw. Środkowego Nadodrza. Jako egzemplifikację pewnego sposobu radzenia sobie z rzeczywistością kulturową, również w aspekcie historycznym na obszarze pogranicza, wybrano Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Witnicy oraz organizację-córkę Polsko-Niemieckie Stowarzyszenie Educatio „Pro Europa Viadrina”. Autor zarysował problematykę tzw. tożsamości rozmytych jako odmianę tożsamości kulturowej pogranicza polsko-niemieckiego w XXI wieku.

In this text, I try to outline the cultural determinants of the new form of identity in the Polish-German borderland, defined for the purpose of explaining the phenomenon in question by the term pendler. The situation and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, i.e. temporary lockdowns as well as closures and restrictions in access to the German side of the border, revealed the scale of the new cultural phenomenon. The dictionary definition of this term states that a pendler is a person who commutes to work or school every day, and in the variant of a cross-border employee crossing the formal state border

W niniejszym tekście staram się nakreślić kulturowe uwarunkowania nowej formy tożsamości na pograniczu polsko-niemieckim określonej na potrzeby wyjaśnienia przedmiotowego zjawiska terminem pendler.Sytuacja i konsekwencje wynikające z pandemii COVID-19, to jest czasowe lockdowny oraz zamknięcia i ograniczenia w dostępie do niemieckiej strony pogranicza odsłoniły skalę nowego fenomenu kulturowego. Słownikowa definicja tego terminu stanowi, że pendler to osoba dojeżdżająca codziennie do pracy lub szkoły, zaś w wariancie pracownika transgranicznego przekraczając formalną, państwową granicę.
