The aim of this article is to reflect on the multimodal constitution of German-French and Polish-German reconciliation in the context of linguistic research on collective memory. Reconciliation between nations is understood here as a strategy applied in international relations, which takes the form of political action, consistent with the values and interests of certain communities. Reconciliation always requires work on collective memory. That is why it is so important to commemorate the symbolic act of reconciliation. In this way, reconciliation also has a specific political and cultural function. A special role in this process is played by the arranged staging of the anniversary celebrations and their media re-enactment/re-staging in the form of multimodal texts that are typical of reconciliation. Selected onlineGerman-language announcements created in the context of the 50thanniversary of the German-French Reconciliation Mass in Reims and the 25th anniversary of the Polish-German Reconciliation Mass in Krzyżowa will be analysed. The key question we will try to answer is how is reconciliation profiled by means of multimodal texts and are there any differences and similarities in this process in the framework of German-French and Polish-German reconciliation?

Autor podejmuje próbę integracji dorobku polskiej kognitywnej szkoły etnolingwistycznej i niemieckiej lingwistyki dyskursu.

Celem artykułu jest dyskusja nad niektórymi aspektami porównania statutu jako rodzaju tekstu w języku polskim i niemieckim. Omówione zostaną podstawowe pojęcia lingwistyki tekstu i opracowane zadania konfrontatywnej lingwistyki tekstu, które tworzą podstawę do analizy polskich i niemieckich statutów. Badana jest funkcja statutów w kontekście ich użycia jak i ich struktura oraz środki językowe, które zostały zastosowane do wyrażenia normatywności w statutach.

The aim of the present paper is a comparative discussion of text forms of association statutes in German and Polish. First the author reviews the constitutional concept of text linguistics and elaborates on the role of confrontational text linguistics. This is the basis for an analysis of statute texts in German and Polish. The function of the statute will be explored in its context, its structure and with regard to its linguistic means, which express the normativity of the statute.

Das Ziel des vorliegenden Beitrags ist es, einige Aspekte des Vergleichs der Textmuster Satzung im Deutschen und Polnischen zu diskutieren. Nach der Darstellung der grundlegenden Begriffe der Textlinguistik werden Aufgaben der konfrontativen Textlinguistik ausgearbeitet, auf deren Grundlage die Analyse der Vereinssatzungen im Deutschen und Polnischen erfolgt. Untersucht wird die Funktion der Textsorte Satzung im Verwendungskontext, insbesondere ihre Struktur und die sprachlichen Mittel, die die Normativität in den Satzungen beider Sprachen ausdrücken.

Linguistic Forms of Balance Building in International Relations. A Linguistic Analysis of the Reconciliation Letter of the Polish Bishops to Their German Brothers of 1965In his article, Waldemar Czachur makes an attempt of analysing the Reconciliation Letter of the Polish Bishops to their German Brothers of 1965 in terms of strategies aimed at building balance in international relations. The section which outlines the historical background of the letter and its political significance for Poland and the Polish-German relations is followed by linguistic analysis of subsequent parts of the letter to look at various balancing strategies between appreciating oneself and the recipient and protecting oneself and the recipient in the spirit of Goffman’s ritual equilibrium.Key words: 1965 Reconciliation Letter of the Polish bishops to German bishops, linguistic politeness, relationship building strategies, letter

In this paper, discourse linguistics is defined neither as a methodology nor as a research perspective, but as a transdisciplinary research programme that draws on the broadly defined changes in humanities. Discourse linguistics studies the discursively shaped relations between the use of language, collective belief systems, knowledge selection processes and culture, and it also asks how linguistic perspectivising creates socially shared meanings, thus modeling specific images of reality. Thus, discourse linguistics becomes an integrative and designing discipline. It integrates different theoretical, methodological and methodical perspectives in designing its research subject, cognitive objective and research procedure.

In dieser Arbeit wird die Diskurslinguistik weder als eine Methodologie noch als eine Forschungsperspektive definiert, sondern als ein transdisziplinäres Forschungsprogramm, das sich die positiven Errungenschaften des tiefgreifenden Wandels in den Geisteswissenschaften zunutze macht. Ihr Forschungsgegenstand sind die diskursspezifischen Relationen zwischen dem Sprachgebrauch, den kollektiven Wissensformationen und den kulturellen Prozessen. Von Interesse ist dabei, wie die sprachlichen Perspektivierungen kollektive Bedeutungen konstituieren und damit spezifische Weltbilder modellieren. Auf diese Weise wird die Diskurslinguistik zu einer integrierenden und projektierenden Linguistik. Wenn ihr Forschungsgegenstand, ihr Erkenntnisinteresse und ihr Forschungsverfahren in einem Projekt erfasst werden, integriert sie verschiedene theoretische, methodologische und methodische Perspektiven.

The aim of this work is to compare the concepts of EUROPE in Polish and German. This comparative study is based on the analysis of these concepts presented in Leksykon aksjologiczny Słowian i ich sąsiadów [Axiological lexicon of the Slavs and their neighbours] in volume 2, dedicated to Europe (2018). In this context, the main theoretical and methodological assumptions relevant to the comparative study are discussed, including ways to create tertium comparationis.

Celem pracy jest analiza porównawcza konceptu/pojęcia EUROPA w językach polskim i niemieckim. Badanie porównawcze przeprowadzone jest w oparciu o analizy owych konceptów zaprezentowanych w Leksykonie aksjologicznym Słowian i ich sąsiadów w tomie drugim, poświęconym Europie (2018). W tym kontekście omówiono również główne założenia teoretyczne i metodyczne istotne dla badań porównawczych, w tym sposób tworzenia tertium comparationis.

The aim of the article is to address the specific characteristics of argumentation in commemorative speeches that refer to cross‑border reconciliation (here: the German‑Polish case). The paper analyses two commemorative speeches given by the German and Polish heads of government on 20th November 2014 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the German‑Polish reconciliation mass in Kreisau/Krzyżowa. The central question is how the reconciliation mass as an event was conceptualized linguistically and functionalised argumentatively in both speeches.

Das Ziel des Beitrages ist es, auf die Spezifik des Argumentierens in den Gedenkreden, die sich auf grenzübergreifende, hier die deutsch‑polnische Versöhnung beziehen, einzugehen. Es werden in der Arbeit zwei Gedenkreden analysiert, die am 20. November 2014 anlässlich des 25. Jahrestages der deutsch‑polnischen Versöhnungsmesse in Kreisau/Krzyżowa von der deutschen sowie der polnischen Regierungschefin gehalten wurden. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Frage, wie die Versöhnungsmesse als Ereignis in beiden Reden sprachlich konzeptualisiert und argumentativ funktionalisiert wurde.
