The author discusses the evolution of European and American contacts with Russia after the annexation of Crimea and destabilization of Ukraine. The paper presents the problems of international sanctions, which constitute the most important instrument for influencing the counties that violate international law and threaten international security. The credibility and practicality of sanctions is discussed, based on restrictions imposed on Russia. The author outlines the probable impact of sanctions on the security of Poland.
