Do Pedagogy Students Perceive Collaboration as Valuable?

This study describes how students of pedagogy perceive group collaboration. The first part of this study sets forth a theological introduction to the basic concept of collaboration and its significance with regard to contemporary culture and to the profession for which the youth who participated in this study are preparing. The second part provides an analysis of qualitative data obtained during this study. According to our findings, the majority of the candidate-participants preparing to enter the field of pedagogy perceive group collaboration as something advantageous that fosters their development. Group collaboration can be a way to enrich the humanistic values of education, including respect for and trust of another person, which are essential to build a community of learners. It is difficult to introduce these values into the education system, however, because institutions are often pressured to increase their quantitative rankings, improve their scores, and compete with each other.

Celem tekstu jest opis sposobu postrzegania współpracy w grupie przez studentów pedagogiki. Struktura tekstu obejmuje dwie części. Pierwsza zawiera teoretyczne wprowadzenie w problematykę współpracy w podstawowym zakresie oraz uzasadnienie jej ważności w odniesieniu do współczesnego kontekstu kulturowego, a także specyfiki zawodu, do którego badana młodzież przygotowuje się. Druga część obejmuje prezentację jakościowej analizy danych. Wynika z niej, że wśród badanych kandydatów do zawodu pedagoga, dominujące jest postrzeganie współpracy w grupie, jako formy dającej wiele korzyści, sprzyjającej rozwojowi uczestników. Ta forma może być drogą do uobecniania w procesie edukacji wartości humanistycznych: szacunku i zaufania do drugiego człowieka, które są podstawą budowania uczących się wspólnot, jednak ich powstawanie jest bardzo utrudnione w systemie edukacji poddanej presji ilościowych rankingów, punktacji i rywalizacji.

Forum jest specyficzną wspólnotą osób, której powstanie i działalność są wpisane w historię Letniej Szkoły Młodych Pedagogów. Na historię Forum składają się wielowymiarowe działania zaprezentowane w tekście. Historia Forum jest jednocześnie historią o uczeniu się współpracy i budowaniu grupy, która jest ciągle otwarta na nowych członków, zmienia swój skład osobowy, ale niezmiennie za sprawą wypracowanych norm i reguł działania zespołowego, realizuje ważne potrzeby młodych pedagogów.

The purpose of this article is to outline the 20-year history of the Forum of Young Pedagogues at the Committee of Pedagogical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Forum is a specific community of people, whose formation and activities are included in the history of the Summer School for Young Pedagogues. The history of the Forum consists of a multi-dimensional activities presented in the text. It is the story about learning how to cooperate and build a group that is still open to new members, changes its composition, but invariably through the developed teamwork norms and rules, fulfils the important needs of young pedagogues.

The purpose of the text is to show the discrepancy between the trend of the humanistic management in organizations increasingly promoted by researchers and the subject treatment of employees used to achieve organizational goals. Schools also undergo those processes as a result of their commercialization. The values declared in the mission of an organization and those present in its organizational everyday are different. There is uncertainty, fear and the need for individual search for ways to deal with the “existential fear.”

Celem tekstu jest pokazanie rozbieżności pomiędzy coraz powszechniej propagowanym przez badaczy nurtem humanistycznego zarządzania w organizacjach a diagnozami obrazującymi przedmiotowe traktowanie pracowników i konsekwencji tego dla osiągania organizacyjnych celów. Szkoły również podlegają tym procesom w wyniku ich komercjalizacji. Wartości deklarowane w misjach organizacji, a te obecne w organizacyjnej codzienności są inne. Obecna jest niepewność, strach i konieczność indywidualnego poszukiwania sposobów na „egzystencjalną trwogę”.

The aim of the article is to present the results of an international research on the problems of cooperation in a group, in students self-assessment. Data analysis shows that many aspects needed for effective cooperation require reinforcement, but there is a potential for taking it in young people's attitudes. Following this path, it is worth focusing on these aspects of building a culture of cooperation that are in the area of influence of educators in the course of university education. Undertaking this problem in the background of the cultural context will allow to consider the dilemmas of social functioning and propose cooperation as a value that protects individuals from the costs of excessive concentration on themselves.

„Edukacyjną okazją” do powstania tego tekstu były zajęcia prowadzone metodą tutoringu. Celem tekstu jest zainspirowanie do lektury książki szerokiego grona czytelników zainteresowanych stanem edukacji w Polsce. Publikacja ta jest wkładem w dyskusję dotyczącą współczesnej polityki oświatowej, której charakterystycznym rysem jest wprowadzanie neoliberalnych reform w zasięgu globalnym. Zawarte w niej treści pozwolą na poznanie polityki edukacyjnej Stanów Zjednoczonych oraz dokonanie porównania wielu podobieństw, jakie odnajdujemy wśród rozwiązań edukacyjnych wprowadzonych w naszym kraju. Ich krytyczna analiza, dokonana w pracy, pozwoli na zrozumienie przyczyn pogłębiających się w Polsce nierówności w dostępie do pełnowartościowej edukacji.

The educational reason for writing this text was classes run by means of tutoring. The aim of the paper is to inspire all the people interested in the state of Polish system of education, to read the book by Eugenia Potulicka titled NEOLIBERAL REFORMS IN EDUCATION IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. FROM RONALD REAGAN TILL BARACK OBAMA. This publication constitutes a contribution into the discussion on contemporary educational policy, in which introduction of neoliberal reforms in the global scope is very characteristic. The book content allows to identify the educational policy of the United States and to compare a lot of similarities between educational solutions implemented in our country. Their critical analysis, presented in this work, will allow the reader to understand the causes of deepening inequalities in the access to education in Poland.
