The following paper discusses the latest decisions taken by the European Union on the subject of lawmaking alterations regarding safety measures within the European Union, especially in the context of the security of its borders. The EU institutions have given these changes top legislative priority as of the year 2017. The paper focuses on presenting various types of border security threats. It subsequently correlates them with the remaining 2017 EU legislative priorities and aims at determining whether the enhanced border security measures, particularly in the field of preventing and combating cross-border crimes, may result in increased security level within the EU.
