A total of 100 candidates (equal number of males and females) aspiring for civil services were selected. The result of correlation analysis revealed that test anxiety, worry and emotionality are positively related to self-distraction and behaviour disengagement aspects of problem-focused coping as well as denial, religion, and self-blame aspects of emotion-focused coping. The test anxiety and worry are significantly related to venting, and emotionality alone is positively and significantly related to the use of emotional support aspect of emotion-focused coping and the use of instrumental support aspect of problem-focused coping. Achievement motivation has been found to be significantly and negatively related only to the humor aspect of emotion-focused coping. Relevant discussion has been presented.

The test anxiety interferes with the ability to communicate knowledge during tests. Preparatory test anxiety may lead to excessive learning that reduces concentration and leads to mistakes and ineffective learning. This preliminary study develops the Preparatory Test Anxiety Questionnaire (PTAQ), tested its reliability and constructs validity, and assessed whether students with preparatory test anxiety exhibit excessive learning. Additionally, it explored the relations between the subscales and the total scores of the PTAQ and the TAI. Sample included 364 undergraduate college psychology students. The results indicated that the PTAQ is comprised of the ‘cognition-emotion’ and ‘behaviour’ subscales and has an adequate internal consistency and construct validity. The subscales and total score of the PTAQ were positively correlated with those of the TAI. Regression analysis showed that the Emotion-Cognition scale of the PTAQ significantly added to the explained variance, while the behaviour scale did not. Results are discussed with regard to preparatory test anxiety.

The poem Lubinský z Lubiné a Rozína Milovská (Lubinský from Lubiná and Rozina Milovská) proves the syncretic nature of Bohuslav Tablic´s poetry. In the literary-historical overviews to date the accent has been placed on its didactic, even moralistic character, which is suggested by the subtitle as well as the basic plotline: the just punishment of a wrong deed, a violation of the moral law. The detailed analysis of the text questions the straight forward genre identification of it as a marketplace song having moralistic tendencies. The didactic principle is minimized - it is only used on the thematic level. Tablic carefully chose to use such means that help divert attention from the „warning story“ itself to the inner tragedy of the main character of Rozína – he tactically employed e.g. the motif of fear and mysteriousness, strong emotionality and suspense in the narration. Noticing the features moves the genre identification of this poem of Tablic´s closer to the ballad.

Language always reflects the life of a certain society. Proverbs, which are the product of folk literature, are closely related to the thinking of the community. In the 20th century it was the city and city lifestyle that took over the dominating role in the society, and this fact has left its mark also on proverbs and sayings. The frequency of their occurrence has dropped and their form has undergone transformations changing their original meaning. Proverbs, the fruit of folk literature closely related to country life, are slowly disappearing in their original form from our lives. Several types of transformations they have undergone have deprived them of the original aesthetic and moral values.

The article addresses the reception of the work of Aby M. Warburg in social and cultural sciences in relation to two thematic scopes. The first wave of the reception of Warburg - originating already in his time and then intensifying mainly during the 1970s - was oriented at his works on the conception of a symbol, respectively on the iconological tradition. The second wave of the reception, which has started to dominate especially in the last years, is related to the conception of a man in Warburg's works, which states a mutual intersection of rationality and emotionality.

The purpose of the text is to define, on the basis of American Christian websites, how religious messages function in the structures of popular culture. Giving to this issue the context of a broadly defined translation (as transfer of a message from one language to another), identifying the sender with the translator (in a metaphorical sense) and defining his or her aims made it possible to better understand the essence of the problem. Religious messages are adapted to mass culture’s structures and this process takes into account communication possibilities of both a medium and its users. This analysis enabled the author to distinguish and describe such characteristics of pop-cultural Christian narration as marginalisation of the religious content, communicativeness and emotionality.
