The Serbian Competition Act , which has been in force since November 2009, was amended in 2013 in order to improve the effective enforcement of competition rules by the Commission for Protection of Competition (hereinafter, the Commission or Competition Commission), and to further harmonise national regulations with the EU acquis in the area of protection of competition. The 2009 Competition Act (hereianfter, the Act), which introduced some modern competition protection concepts into the Serbian legal system, had certain deficiencies which hindered the practical application of the statute and, consequently, effective enforcement by the Commission. In addition to the existing provisions of the Act, the legislator introduced a novelty that will, beyond any doubt, produce considerable effects on the Commission's actions in deciding on competition infringement cases. The novelty concerns the introduction of the so-called commitment procedure, which allows the Commission to close a competition infringement case by accepting commitments offered by the undertakings concerned, without establishing whether there has been an infringement. The instrument has turned out to be exceptionally effective in closing proceedings before the competition authorities of the EU and the Member States.

The article is of empirical nature. It presents the results of research dedicated to identification of the organizational culture and the commitment of the employees of an international corporation operating on the financial services market. The OCAI questionnaire, used to identify the dominant type of organizational culture, and a questionnaire concerning the commitment and loyalty of employees in three selected branches of the company, located in Poland, England and India, were used in the research. The main aim of the research was to identify the types of the organizational culture and to define the level of commitment of employees and loyalty, taking into account factors like branch location and nationality of the surveyed people. The assumption that organizational culture is positively correlated with the level of commitment and loyalty has been only partially confirmed and requires further verification. However, the differences between the results from the three branches (Poland, India, England) encourage continuation of that type of research.

The article aims to present the themes of popular contemporary women’s novels. The contexts for the analyses are stereotypes of sex and commercial expectations. The marketing strategy of the publishers and authors is important as well as the changing rules about creating the image of an author by the media. Pretending social involvement in popular women’s novels is connected with marketing strategies and the need to refer to popular subjects is of secondary importance. What is important, however, is the literary awareness of the authors and the capacity of recognizing the place of one’s own creativity on the map of pop culture.

As a fully committed writer, Boualem Sansal has “stepped in literature as he would have put on a combat gear”, to dismantle poisonous myths that prevent, for him, post-independent Algeria to look dispassionately into the future. Mobilizing all possible resources to fulfil his purpose, he logically turns towards self-narrative, which undertaken subjectivity is used as an answer to the falsification of objective historic by the ruling political power. The way Boualem Sansal re-appropriate self-narration, strongly strengthening the role played by the reader, makes his literary work a radically renewed approach of the relation between fiction and reality.

Strawson’s work seems to contain both pragmatic and semantic concepts of presupposition. The former concept has largely been studied by many philosophers and linguists, while the latter has not been properly investigated (van Fraassen being an exception). The present author explicates the semantic concept of existential presupposition in relation to deriving existential statements and distinguishing their de dicto/de re variants (in the rather generalized sense following Tichý).

Amartya K. Sen is criticised for a modification of mainstream rational choice theory by an introduction of the commitment concept. This kind of modification sometimes is treated as a mistake. This article attempts to interpret the Amartya Sen’s concept of rationality. The means to this end will be an analysis of the ways of explanation of socalled Sen’s mistake. Three critical approaches to Sen’s concept of rationality made by Philip Pettit, Daniel Hausman and Geoffrey Brenan will be examined. In conclusion Sen’s concept of rationality, which includes the concept of commitment, should be interpreted as an approach which provides a subject with an autonomous expression of oneself, agency, responsibility and skills of critical thinking.

The article presents the developmental approach to the Sternberg’s theory which introduces love as the trilayers phenomenon. This approach enables the adoption of a developmental perspective to understand the experience of love. Assuming that individuals develop from biological to social being, the article describes biological, psychological and sociocultural factors that influence three aspects of love. The article also describes interactions between this aspects. This layered approach allows understanding of the infl uence of conation, emotional and cognitive processes on three love layers: intimacy, passion, and commitment. The metaphor of layers helps to understand the diffi culties in forming intimate relationships.

Shaping an attitude of commitment among employees brings many advantages to companies in connection with an increase in employee effectiveness and innovation. As to motivation itself, it is the matching of solutions applied to the needs of people employed that seems to be crucial. The actual taking into account of individual expectations is difficult to achieve, however, especially in big and medium–sized companies. Creating a wide gamut of motivation instruments tailored to the needs of specific groups of employees seems to be more manageable. The aim of this article was an analysis* of connections between membership in specific groups of employees—men/women, people of different age, with various educational backgrounds, employed on the basis of different contracts, holding various positions, and of different seniority—and preferred solutions in the development of commitment.

The paper presents the preliminary results of the interdisciplinary study on the influence of the government's remembrance policy. The key aspect of the project was a measurement of 364 students' attitudes towards management of collective memory in laboratory conditions. Its objective was a diagnosis of Polish youth's disposition to the management of collective memory by a state, but also a measurement of attitude change resulting from a narrative (which imitated the remembrance policy). The paper discusses general results of the study and three aspects of attitudes: cognitive, emotional and behavioral. It presents both results from the first measurement and effects of emotions' and commitment's manipulation. Collected data was used to formulate four research conclusions which consider attitudes towards the government's remembrance policy, their change and their relevance to a question on the distribution of influence between a government and a civil society.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced higher education students to change their academic functioning, as well as the process of their social integration. This study focuses on the impact of the pandemic on student well-being, engagement and commitment to the university. The research group comprises 184 students from two universities (Poland and Germany). The research has shown that engagement with the university and the sense of commitment are negatively related to students’ well-being before the pandemic. It has also been revealed that females show higher commitment and engagement regardless of the country. Findings contribute to understanding student engagement during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Employee empowerment and continuance commitment are two concepts that are of significance to all modern corporate entities. A robust appreciation and application of employee empowerment will contribute in measurable respects to the growth and sustainability of various organizations and continuance commitment of their employ-ees. This study is an assessment of the relationship and the effect of employee empow-erment on continuance commitment in the Nigerian manufacturing industry. A cross-sectional survey design method was adopted and data was collected via a survey of three hundred and three (303) respondents randomly selected from a population of 1243 employees of 25 manufacturing companies in Delta State, Nigeria. Data collect-ed were analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Correlation and linear regression analysis with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The results of the study showed that there is significant relationship between employee empowerment and continuance commitment. As predicted, the study also revealed that employee empowerment exerts a positive and statistically significant effect on continuance commitment in manufacturing companies in Delta State, Nigeria. Based on these find-ings, we conclude that employee empowerment has significant influence on continu-ance commitment. The study therefore recommends among others that management of manufacturing companies in Nigeria should grant their employees power to initiate change, thereby encouraging them to take charge of their work tasks. The present article analyses mobilisation in climate and environmental movements as a social practice. The research questions concern why people take part in said movements, and how this makes sense to them, in relation to the specific context. The study aims to understand participation on several levels, thus filling knowledge gaps regarding the cross-section of civil society, social movements and Bourdieu’s theory of social practices. The empirical study consists of two cases of current climate and environmental movements. The first case concerns local groups and networks mobilised to preserve forests and parks. The second case concerns local and global climate strikes and manifestations. The reasons for taking part in such movements are found on several levels. Firstly, the explicit concerns and cares, as well as frustrations, trigger the commitment. Taking part is a way to handle the crisis in a way that makes sense personally. Secondly, previous experiences, education and professional life enable a sense of belonging and a sense of being able to take part. Thirdly, the socialisation that takes part within the social practice contributes to an increased commitment. In the stories about previous and coming actions, values and traditions – of the right ways of doing and being – a practical sense/habitus for this social practice is reproduced. The conveying of concerns in public is understood and explained as a ritualised practice, contributing to the commitment, as a key resource.

W raporcie zostały zaprezentowane wyniki badań eksperymentalnych nad związkiem między wzbudzeniem emocji i zaangażowania a skutecznością polityki historycznej rządu. Przeprowadzone pomiary pozwoliły zespołowi manipulować emocjami inspirowanymi w narracji (neutralne – pozytywne – negatywne) i stopniem zaangażowania uczestników w popularyzację opowieści (brak zaangażowania – niskie zaangażowanie), a także umożliwiły obserwację różnic między warunkami w wynikach dla zmiennych niezależnych: zapamiętywania informacji, zmiany postaw i zachowania. Oprócz przedstawienia zgromadzonych danych raport zawiera zwięzły wstęp teoretyczny do badań (zwłaszcza hipotez teoretycznych weryfikowanych w projekcie) i krótką dyskusję wyników końcowych.

The report presents results of the experimental study on relationships between arousal of emotions and commitment, and an effectiveness of the government’s remembrance policy. In measurements, the team manipulated emotions inspired in a narrative (neutral vs. positive vs. negative) and participants’ commitment to popularization of a narrative (no commitment vs. low commitment), and it observed how different conditions influenced independent variables: memorization of information, attitude change and real-life behavior. Besides presentation of collected data, the report also includes brief introduction to the theoretical background of the study (especially theoretical hypotheses which verification was project’s objective) and a short discussion of final results.

Though its actual nature and content remain debatable, the importance of love in human relations is indubitable. This paper attempts an exploration of the phenomenon of love in the institution of marriage in Esan traditional culture. It questions the reality or ontology of love or its epistemic content within the said culture. In other words, the question is, is there love in the Esan traditional marriage system? If there is none, then it is an ontological issue. And if there is, with what epistemological framework can it be accessed? To this end, the paper employs what could be regarded as a working definition of love which could include notions such as commitment, care, intimacy, and self-giving. With this understanding, the paper interrogates the doctrine of love among the Esan people and sets out how gender is implicated in the conception of love and marriage in traditional Esan society.
