Adolescence is a time of particular susceptibility to mental disorders. A programme aimed at facilitating emotional development in teenagers might be an important element of prophylactic psychopathology targeting young people. The activities proposed here are group activities and have several aims: to develop the ability to become self-aware regarding one's emotions and regulate their intensity; to foster an attitude of caring for oneself; and to teach problem-solving. What is of particular significance is shaping young people’s habits in being proactive in their personal development.

As affective labor is becoming more dominant in contemporary capitalism, the affect of the body politic is increasingly important. This article argues for a theory of the affective state apparatus to account for the state's role in governing the affect of the population. An analysis of George W. Bush's Achieving the Promise: Transforming Mental Health Care in America reveals that an affective state apparatus functions to capture, constitute, and circulate the affects of the population. This article contends that an affective state apparatus operates through the very intimacies of our bodies in order to produce ever more efficient and productive capitalist subjects.

Attachment styles have been analysed in the context of development and functioning of children for decades. It seems interesting to analyse the attachment styles also in the context of adult life and psychological well-being. The article presents own research concerning the relationship between the attachment styles and mental health among young adults. There were 96 participants, 60 females and 36 males. The Attachment Styles Questionnaire, the General Health Questionnaire (GHO-28), and an authorial survey were used. A statistical analysis showed a positive correlation between anxiousambivalent attachment style and somatic symptoms, unrest, depression symptoms, and avoidant behaviours. A secure attachment style correlated negatively with depression symptoms.

It is a general principle that when so highly sensitive and personal information is shared by the patient with the therapist should be kept secret and confidential. In this study is given a critical discussion about the significance of confidentiality by Mental Health professionals of mental patients “medical” secrets. The justification of confidentiality is based on deontologic principles such us autonomy and trust. Two theoretical frameworks provide a justification for medical confidentiality. First, a principle-based ethic, as set forth by Beauchamp Childress, that explores the basis of confidentiality in terms of “the normal principles it expresses" as well as “the consequences it produces." The second one, is a case-based ethic, as discussed by Baier, which is primarily concerned with interpersonal attachments and the moral decision-making that emanates from those relation-ships.

Introduction and aim. It is very important for nurses to experience post-traumatic growth in order to protect their mental health after traumatic events such as a pandemic. The aim of this study is to determine the post traumatic growth status of infection control nurses, who play an important role in health services in the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and methods. This study is a cross-sectional, descriptive study. The study was conducted with 170 infection control nurses working in infection control committees of hospitals in Turkey. “Nurse Descriptive Information Form” and “Post Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI)” were used as data collection tools in this study. Results. As a result of this research, the mean PTGI total score of the infection control nurses was 70.73±23.03, and it was determined that they experienced moderate growth from the sub-dimensions of the scale. Also it was determined that there was a statistically significant difference between the changes in philosophy of life sub-dimension scores of PTGI according to the age and marital status of the nurses. In addition, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the total PTGI scores according to the year of working as an infection control nurse and the loss of a relative of the healthcare worker due to the COVID-19 disease. Conclusion. In this study, it can be said that infection control nurses experienced a moderate post-traumatic growth after the COVID-19 pandemic. Age, marital status, working year and loss of a healthcare worker friend during the pandemic period seem to affect nurses’ post-traumatic growth. It is very important to determine the mental health of infection control nurses working on the front lines in the pandemic.

The significance of physical activity for mental well-being has been discussed in detail in the literature on the subject. However, a question arises concerning the relationship between motivation to exercise and psychological functioning. The objective of the present study was to test the relationship between the types of motivation for physical activity and selected indicators of mental health. The study involved 99 men aged between 18 and 60 years old (M=28.20, SD=9.35) who were regular attendees at several gyms in Warsaw. The study used the following methods: the General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28), developed by Goldberg, the Gym Attendance Motivation Inventory, developed by Awruk and Janowski, and the Personal Data Sheet. A significant negative relationship between intrinsic motivation (to improve one’s physical performance) and symptoms of depression was observed. Significant positive associations were found between the period of training and scores on the Social dysfunction and Somatic symptoms subscales of GHQ-28. The remaining associations were found to be statistically insignificant. In addition, there were no significant differences in motivation to exercise between men with low and high levels of mental health symptoms. The motivational profiles identified in cluster analysis did not differentiate the subjects with respect to mental health indicators.

Every day we read about accidents, crimes, and felonies. Therefore, it is worthwhile thinking like media dazzled with the felony and cruelty, we are changing ourselves, as the narrative in the mass media can influence our mental health and sense of security. It is worthwhile looking at these problems not only from the perspective of the observer and the reader of media news reports , but also the unjustly sentenced, experiencing the effects of the media narrative.

The development of technology has a significant impact and creates new requirements in the field of labour-law relations. One of these requirements is the protection of occupational health and safety by preventing the blurring of boundaries between employees’ work and private lives. The most important means which is currently the subject of discussions in the professional community, but also in practice, is the right to disconnect. This paper is devoted exactly to this right, its perception at the level of the institutions of the European Union, and its legal enshrinement in the legislation of the Slovak Republic.

The work concerns the role of childhood experiences in the development of mental health. It is believed that regardless of the emotional relationship and genetic predispositions, appropriately selected stimulants in the environment may also influence the young child’s development. In the first periods of child’s life the experiences gained in family pay as crucial character as the environment where this development takes place. It is emphasized in literature that appropriate intellectual and social development of a child is related with the influence of the external environment as long as it is available and logically designed. In Poland only a few studies concern families with small children – they are usually carried out by sociologists, moreover, there is also very little data on the determinants of the development of children and possible role of these for mental health. It was therefore attempted in this work to describe possible childhood experiences, which may play role in the development of mental health in childhood and adolescence or adulthood.

In this paper I examine how the pandemic and quarantine of 2020 affected qualitative research. Employing personal narrative as a method, I show what disadvantages researchers may have met with whilst conducting their studies. The unprecedented circumstances of the restrictions and uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 crisis have had a dramatic impact on the public mental health of individuals, including academic researchers. Many online tools are very useful for qualitative researchers, but are not a substitute for face-to-face research. In this article I explain these issues more thoroughly and discuss the challenges that researchers have faced during the period of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Purpose: To assess knowledge and attitude on mental disorder among adults in Putalibazar Municipality of Syangja district. Materials and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among adults of the aged group (18-64 years) in Putalibazar Municipality of Syangja district of Nepal. A semi-structured questionnaire was prepared for data collection. Similarly, the Likert scale was used to assess respondent’s attitude levels. SPSS 20 version and MS-Excel were used to analyze the data. The questionnaire was translated into the Nepali language during data collection. Results: The majority (57.3%) respondents responded mental disorder is a health condition involving changes in feeling and emotions. More than half (54.7%) respondents were having poor knowledge and the rest (45.3%) respondents were having a good level of knowledge on mental disorders. Respondents involved in a private job, government job and NGO/INGO have the highest, and housewives have the lowest level of knowledge regarding the mental disorder. Three-fifth respondents (59.7%) were having a negative attitude and the rest two-fifth respondents (40.3%) were having a positive attitude towards mental disorders. Also, the level of knowledge was having a statistically significant relationship with the education (p=0.02) and occupation (p=<0.001) of the respondents. The level of attitude was having a statistically significant relationship with the level of knowledge of the respondents (p=0.004). Conclusions: Good level of knowledge regarding mental disorders was lagging among respondents and a negative attitude seems high. There is an urgent need for public awareness among the adults living in this location. Mass media and anti-stigma campaigns can equally play a vital role to bring change in the attitude level of the respondents.

The aim of the study was to develop and validate a standardized inventory assessing the mental health of young adults. The originality of the proposed approach lies in the fact that the inventory refers to both the positive and negative dimension of mental health. 405 students were examined, including 292 women and 113 men. When assessing the accuracy of the newly created instrument, the covariance of its results with the results of other tools measuring mental health or its aspects: General Health Questionnaire GHQ-28; Questionnaire for Quality of Life Assessment WHOQL-BREF; Questionnaire of Life Orientation by A. Antonowsky was assessed. Additionally, the covariance of personality traits defined by the Big Five Model as well as a temperamental dimensions of Regulative Temperament Theory was assessed. An analysis of the factor structure of the questionnaire was also performed. Although the results of the factor analysis indicate a unidimensional structure of the IZP, the correlation between its two dimensions equals -0.65. In addition, there was a correlation between both the positive dimension of mental health and negative health with neuroticism and emotional reactivity. The results of analyzes of personality and temperamental measures with data obtained using the Mental Health Inventory suggest the utility of the tool in the assessment of mental health indicators in both negative and positive aspect.

The article deals with the subject of students’ mental health, which has been so relevant in recent years. It is based on Furlong’s concept and theory of socio-emotional health. We tried to discover relations between dimensions and their indicators of socio-emotional health and subjective happiness with orientation to Slovak secondary school students. We used the Social-Emotional Health Survey questionnaire, version for adolescents (SEHS-S), and our results solidly confirmed a positive relationship between experiencing happiness and dimensions of socio-emotional health.

COVID-19 represents unprecedented challenges for the entire community. Much of Australia’s commercial sector has voluntarily deployed strategies to support social distancing ahead of any lock downs. Businesses are working to safely maintain operations and a productive workforce throughout social isolation/distancing for an unknown duration. Yet uncertainty, ambiguity and radical change are breeding grounds for anxiety, stress and helplessness. Conditions that contradict safe mental health practices for work. The Australian perspective includes the cumulative stressors of the bushfires, torrential rains and floods. Each of these stressors was an environmental stressor. But people and businesses knew what to do. The newest cumulative stressor is remote work becoming the norm. Workplaces have often had a mediating effect as a point of social interaction. Legally mandated safe spaces that people could connect and be productive within. There is much research on the connection between social isolation and loneliness. Organisations need to support workers in maintaining social connections, team cohesion and productivity throughout these times. This paper will explore the health and safety legal obligations that apply in this context and outline a practical framework for organisations to contribute to and reinforce a positive state of mental health during the mass remote work experiment.

In addition to the biological body and psychological and social aspects, humans are spiritual beings. There is much in the world that we are yet unable to explain, but to what human experience reacts, either positively or negatively. This article treats the possible negative interpretations of spiritual experiences that manifest in different crises. Spirituality can be defined in various ways and it can, in turn, be divided into core categories that relate to human spiritual needs. In order to provide help that corresponds to the multidimensional human experience, it is important for health care to consider spiritual crises. Several of the spiritual crises entail good opportunities for personal development and therefore represent, in a hidden form, a potential for treatment and positive dynamics rather than psychopathology. Meanwhile, people outside the health care system would need to acknowledge the mental health problems that accompany spiritual experiences. There is a big risk of romanticizing several paranormal experiences or even mood shifts, which can result in the person not getting the needed help or treatment. Unfortunately, not even religious persons or those active in spiritual practices are immune to mental disorders. A growing interest in different New Age practices, which mix the search for fast spiritual experiences and solutions with several cultural and religious settings, quickly bring the downside of spirituality to the attention of mental health specialists. Spiritual needs are common to human experience and they often arise during illness and treatment. There are several methods for collecting information and spiritual history on the patient’s needs, and sometimes simple questions asked during obtaining the medical history are sufficient to provide the specialist with necessary information that can be considered in developing the treatment plan. Changing the perspective can lead to a completely different understanding of the cause of several illnesses or disorders. As an example, a patient suffering from alcoholism can be seen as a person searching for connection or wholeness with higher forces. Spiritual issues are clinically related to the pathological risk that reminds us of the importance of including mental and existential issues in clinical practice. The religious/spiritual gap may become an obstacle. There is a considerable literature examining whether patients would prefer their physicians to inquire about their religious or spiritual beliefs as part of the routine history taking. Physicians maintain that the foremost reason they cannot provide spiritual care to patients is that they do not have enough time during the medical encounter. The second most common reason given is that they do not have adequate training to provide spiritual care to patients and that such care is better provided by others. Thirdly, physicians express discomfort about engaging in discussions on spirituality and faith with patients. In regard to the psychopathology of mental disorders, there are two basic classifications: the first one was created by the American Psychiatric Association (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders – DSM) and the second one was published by the World Health Organisation – WHO (The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems – ICD). The development of the DSM, in its fourth edition, brought a change into the approach to religion and spirituality in the context of clinical diagnosis. Introducing V-code 62.89 (religious or spiritual problem) has increased the possibility of differential diagnosis between religion/spirituality and health/psychopathology. Unfortunately, there are no such developments in ICD-10. It sets boundaries to dealing with the R/S issues in psychiatry.

In the article the problem of difficulties in junior students teaching and proving of dependence of this phenomenon on mental health of children is considered. The nature of the identified dominant causes of learning difficulties, both internal and external, confirms that the reorganization in the modern primary school is aimed at strengthening the developmental impact of learning, at the formation of junior students’ skills for learning that is directly related to their health in general and mental component in particular. During the experiment it was found out that in elementary grades are often noticeable gaps in the skills of educational-cognitive nature (59 % of studied cases), poor performance of students caused by frequent diseases (19 % of the studied cases). In poorly achieving students self-regulation is violated. Planning for them is very difficult, the self-control is usually missing. Slowly doing class work, these students do not have time to check it, even in cases when the teacher reminds them of its necessity. There were distinguished three groups of causes of the difficulties in junior students teaching during the experiment. Reasons for the first group are generating disadvantages of educational work of teachers: didactic (violation of the principles and rules of didactics); educational (mainly underestimation of extracurricular work with children). The second group of reasons due to impairment of normal physical, physiological and intellectual development of children, these reasons include: poor health; physical disability; individual psychological characteristics; negative character traits. Reasons for the third group are directly dependent on the willingness of teachers and students: the weak material base of schools; the low level of pre-school education; domestic living conditions of students; the cultural level of the parents; family relationships. The author sees that innovative approaches to overcome the difficulties in the education of children of primary school are the promising directions for future research.
