The article refers to the vulgarization of the Polish language. The author presents the results of statistical surveys while referring to the linguistic and pedagogic issues. It was also suggested that the constant growth of vulga-risms, insults and curses was proportional to an universal access and use of media (particularly in the electronic communication).

W tekście zwrócono uwagę na fakt, że ciągły wzrost wulgaryzmów, wyzwisk i przekleństw w języku jest proporcjonal-ny względem coraz powszechniejszego dostępu do mediów i korzystania z nich (szczególnie w zakresie komunikacji elektronicznej).

F. Majewicz przekonująco dowodzi, że nie jest możliwe dokładniejsze usytuowanie polszczyzny na tej liście).

The author, referring to data from over ten years ago (owing to a lack of more recent data), presents the Polish language as – contrary to a common stereotype – one of the most largely spoken languages in the world. On the list of the world’s largest languages in descending order, Polish is ranked at the end of the top twenty, or, more likely, just outside the top twenty (Alfred F. Majewicz convincingly argues that a more accurate placing of Polish is impossible).

The article is a review of the issues concerning the views of Cyprian Norwid on the topic of the essence of language, as well as an attempt to confront them with the poet’s reflection on contemporary Polish language. The author begins his reflections by pre-senting the sketched general principles of his theory of words and language, and then compares them contextually with the statements of the poet on the nineteenth-century Polish language. The contexts understood as a set of references needed to understand Norwid’s speech about Polish language mainly concern those elements of its design lan-guage, as dual essence words (Spirit – Letter), the question of the relationship between word and deed, word and thought, clarity of language and individual appropriation and collective responsibility for the word.

The text is devoted to those Sienkiewicz’s letters-features, letters-reports, letterscommentaries, letters-articles, letters-reviews in which the author of Quo vadis:1) verbalizes the situations of the „American Polish people” in the contemporary United States of America, 2) describes the Polish language they used, 3) expresses anxiety about its state, 4) analyzes the phenomenon of denationalization of the compatriots living abroad, 5) pays attention to the progressive Germanization and the linguistic-cultural Anglicization, 6) shows conflicts in the Polish organizations and institutions in America, 7) displays attachment to the Polish language of Helena Modrzejweska – distinguished theatrical personality. Letters from a journey to America (Listy z podróży do Ameryki) is a source of very valuable and diverse (also linguistic) information about the life of the 19th century Polish diaspora in America struggling not only with the material, but also spiritual, including linguistic, problems.

The texts published by Janusz Rudnicki in the quarterly Książki. Magazyn do czytania (Agora) present a new and interesting scene of fighting with the use of the exploited but still constantly updated meanings of war. In the author’s discussions of German literature, the writer, delegated to Polish-German commissions, continually articulates – for instance in the form of phrasemes and phrases – well-known war languages. I use them in the paper as a post-colonial concept of Rudnicki’s supplementation of the Polish-German historical matrix, but also as explanation of the prejudice, stereotypes and tensions persisting in the space of neighborhood communication.

Nową i ciekawą odsłonę walki na wyeksploatowane, ale podlegające aktualizacjom znaczenia wojenne stanowią teksty publikowane przez Janusza Rudnickiego w kwartalniku Książki. Magazyn do czytania (Agora). W autorskich omówieniach niemieckiej literatury autor oddelegowany do polskoniemieckich poruczeń wciąż na nowo artykułuje – na przykład w postaci frazemów i frazesów – znane wojenne języki. Wykorzystuję je w artykule jako postkolonialny koncept uzupełniania przez Rudnickiego polsko-niemieckiej matrycy historycznej, ale też objaśniania uprzedzeń, stereotypów i napięć utrzymujących się w przestrzeni sąsiedzkiej komunikacji.
