The Internet makes it not only possible to purchase goods through websites (online shops) by submitting a tender and accepting it, but to do so by means of online auctions. The latter way of concluding a contract came into prominence both in the United States of America and all around the world. Items purchased on auctions have come to be not only consumer goods, but also articles of great value, including works of art such as Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn’s The Circumcision, which, so far, have solely been seen at auctions organised by, for instance, Sotheby’s or Christie’s auction houses. The Internet-based auctions have also been popular in Poland. As for on-line auction sales, Allegro.pl website is of great importance in the country. The regulations of the Polish Civil Code define three ways of concluding a contract, including an auction and a tender, as defined by the provisions of Articles 70¹–705 of the Polish Civil Code. However, the analysis of the Internet auction procedure shows a number of discrepancies between it and the auction-referred regulations contained in the Civil Code. The differences pose a question whether they are significant enough to conclude that the on-line auction, despite some apparent similarities, should be regarded as a form of concluding a contract that is entirely different from the auction regulated by the provisions of the Civil Code. The positive decision on this issue would determine the question of the purposefulness of introducing provisions on the online auctions as a separate form of concluding a contract into the Civil Code. The conducted analysis leads to the conclusion that the on-line auction does not differ essentially from that regulated by the provisions of the Civil Code. Therefore, there is no necessity of introducing any separate regulations concerning it into the Civil Code, but only taking into consideration the specific character of the on-line auction and adjusting the existing provisions of the Civil Code to them.

The communication and internet revolution has had a great influence on time and space contraction, and virtual space has become a platform for intellectual encounters beyond borders. Nowadays, in the time of the knowledge-based society and new communication technologies, the opening of formerly closed borders between “us” and the “others,” and, in consequence, the possibility of creating cosmopolitan identities in virtual space seem to be important problems. Ethical cosmopolitanism should become a determining condition for creation of such identities due to its claim that all people in the world should be treated as equals, regardless of their race,gender, set of beliefs, religion, or the place of their dwelling.The aim of the paper is to present the recent discussion on cosmopolitan identity in the era of the knowledge society, as well as to introduce the concept of strangeness and depict the sociological background and the current evolution of creating the collective identities. The main scope of the article is the discussion of conditions for creating the cosmopolitan identity in the internet space.

The aim of the article is to show conspiratorial thinking combined with technophobia. The author presents the similarities and relations between conspiracy theories and other narratives (present in popular culture), which emerged as the aftermath of the Cold War and apocalyptic fears. The article presents three options for the perception of the relation between technology and conspiracy theories: in the context of dystopian and utopian cultural texts, and in the context of space as no-place, in which there operates a community centered around conspiracy theories.

This article is a methodological continuation of the content presented in the first part of the author's research (“Media Education and the New Evangelization. Part One: Media Components and Challenges”, Verbum Vitae 37 [2020] 407-425) and represents an implementation of the concepts outlined there. In that previous text, the author demonstrated that pursuing a new evangelization in the Church demands the media education of evangelizers and their cooperation with the leaders of media education. This present article is aimed at formulating pastoral postulates and educational proposals based on the issues and connections that emerged. The first section outlines the postulates and educational proposals relating to those in charge of ongoing formation and who serve in the Church on the basis of the canonical authorization to teach (missio canonica). The second section contains postulates that apply to the formation of lay people and future clergy in preparing for evangelization in the Church. The third section focuses on a group of postulates concerning school religious education in light of the current Core Curriculum of the Catechesis of the Catholic Church in Poland (2018). This paper concludes with four research issues in the area of media education in the Church in the context of the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The methods of the third research stage borrow from the methodological paradigm of pastoral theology, mainly in its methods of analysis and synthesis, and have been applied in the article.

W procesie socjalizacji politycznej media wydają się odgrywać coraz istotniejszą rolę. Wynika to nie tylko z dużej ilości czasu spędzanego każdego dnia przed ekranami i innymi nośnikami informacji, ale i coraz większej „intymności” w relacjach z urządzeniami – większość Polaków (ok. 64% w 2017 r. w grupie 15+) posiada smartfon, który daje możliwości bycia online niemalże w każdym momencie życia. Należy założyć, iż w grupie młodzieży szkolnej, odsetek ten jest większy. Skłania to do zadania pytania: na ile dostęp do sieci wpływa na proces socjalizacji politycznej i jakie są jego skutki w obszarze procesów społecznego dostosowania? Celem artykułu jest ich zestawienie i próba zrewidowania założeń teoretycznych dotyczących pojęcia socjalizacji politycznej. Poddajemy w wątpliwość aktualność pewnych założeń ery przedinternetowej w stosunku do współczesnych realiów świata funkcjonującego w trybie permanent-logged-in. Wysuwamy też propozycję kilku rekomendacji mogących stanowić podstawę do bardziej użytecznego społecznie wykorzystania mediów w obszarze dostosowania się (w szczególności młodej) jednostki do życia w warunkach demokracji medialnej.

The media appears to play an increasingly significant role in the process of political socialization. This is the outcome of the large amount of time people spend every day in front of their screens and other sources of information on the one hand, and from the growing ‘intimacy’ of their relations with their devices. A majority of Poles (ca. 64% in 2017 in the 15+ age group) have smartphones, and thus the possibility of being online at practically every moment. This proportion can be assumed to be even higher among schoolchildren. This precipitates a question of the extent to which access to the web influences the process of political socialization, and what impact it has on the processes of social adjustment. This article attempts to compare and review theoretical tenets of the concept of political socialization. The validity of some assumptions made in the pre-internet area is questioned in the face of the contemporary reality of the world operating in permanently-logged-in mode. A handful of recommendations are also put forward for a more socially useful application of the media in the adjustment of the individual (in particular young people) to living in the circumstances of media democracy.

In this article, the authors study the influence of the Internet on human cognitive abilities using a phenomenological and hermeneutical approach. They characterize the Internet as an electronic or technological form of media communication facilitating nearly instantaneous and active dissemination of information, in particular image-based information. The authors study the Internet’s influence on the cognitive abilities of humans using a definition of the Internet as multilaterally connected information networks. Applying the theoretical approach, they reach the conclusion that newly formulated thinking strategies feature a network-like character to the detriment of the ability to observe, remember and other higher levels of thinking. The empirical approach is based on neurological and sociological studies which reveal the fact that new ways or strategies of thinking are being fixed in the brain, thereby driving long-term and permanent changes in human thinking. In such a case, the inability to concentrate on one idea for an extended period of time in order to reach a deeper state of contemplation proves to be at risk. In connection to this, we may encounter, as the authors believe, symptoms of knowledge deficiency resulting from a loss of interest in linear, chronological thinking. The authors claim that knowing these risks should lead to a more careful and more critical approach to the Internet, or even Internet communication, which may partially mitigate its negative influence.

Political actors are increasingly using online algorithmic technologies to manipulate the public opinion more than ever before. With this in mind it is necessary to recognize the powerful possibilities that come with microtargeting, personalization of political messages and management of semi-automated social actors (bots). The basic research question asked in the article focuses on political rivalry. The author ponders on the extent to which political persuasive and manipulative actions, supported by algorithmic software of social media, fit within the existing perception of different forms of propaganda.

W artykule opisane zostały badania, których celem było poznanie znaczeń, jakie dzieci nadają swojemu codziennemu uczestnictwu w cyfrowej wspólnocie. Zanurzenie dzieci w świecie online wywołuje bowiem od kilku dekad różne opinie osób dorosłych – od tych bardzo entuzjastycznych, aż po dalece alarmistyczne. Istotne jest natomiast – jak się wydaje – wsłuchiwanie w głos samych dzieci. Stwarza to szansę na wzniesienie się ponad poziom oceniania wpływów oddziaływania mediów na dzieci. Ponadto przybliża do poznawania tych przestrzeni, które kryją repertuar barwnych doświadczeń związanych z byciem dzieci w świecie online. Wykorzystano w tym celu wywiady fokusowe, w których wzięły udział dzieci w wieku 8–10 lat. Uzyskano obszerny materiał badawczy, który przeanalizowano zgodnie z sześcioetapową ramą analityczną według Virginii Braun i Victorii Clarke. Wśród najważniejszych wniosków można wskazać, iż aktywność internetowa wypełnia dziś w znacznym stopniu codzienność dzieci, a ich bycie online przeplata się naturalnie z byciem offline. Dzieci postrzegają internet jako źródło wielu możliwości i deklarują, że czują się w nim bezpieczne, ponieważ są świadomi zasad, jakimi trzeba się w nim kierować. Internet stwarza im przestrzeń do bycia razem i inicjowania wspólnie wielu aktywności. Dzieci doceniają wartość bezpośrednich kontaktów, które w ich odczuciu znacznie różnią się od tych zapośredniczonych przez technologie.

The article discusses the research aimed at revealing the meanings that children give to their daily participation in the digital community. For several decades, the immersion of children in the online world has been evoking different opinions of adults – from those very enthusiastic to those highly alarmist. However, it seems to be essential to listen to the voice of the children themselves. This creates an opportunity to rise above the level of assessing the impact of media on children and to reach the space that hide a repertoire of colorful experiences related to the presence of children in the online world. For this purpose, children aged 8–10 took part in the focus interviews. The research material was collected and analyzed according to Virginia Braun and Victoria Clarke’s six-stage analytical framework. One of the most important conclusions is that online activity fills children’s everyday life to a large extent and their online presence is naturally intertwined with being offline. Children perceive the internet as a source of many opportunities and declare that they feel safe, as they are aware of the rules that must be followed in it. The Internet provides them space where they can be together and engage in many activities. Children appreciate the value of face-to-face contacts, which they find different from those mediated by technology.

Universal internet access and technological innovation in posting audio and video content online has become a new media and social reality, which requires reconsidering the way God’s Word is preached in the modern world. New technologies offer new chances and greater opportunities to influence recipients who seek answers not only to existential, but also to spiritual, religious and transcendental questions. The more prominent online presence of God’s Word preachers and expanding their competences to include coaching and influencer’s skills creates opportunities for more fruitful evangelism and more effective presentation of evangelical content.

Powszechność Internetu, innowacyjność technologiczna w publikowaniu treści audio i video w sieci internetowej to nowa rzeczywistość medialna i społeczna, która domaga się zrewidowania sposobu głoszenia słowa Bożego we współczesnym świecie. Nowe technologie stwarzają nowe szanse i większe możliwości wpływu na odbiorców poszukujących odpowiedzi nie tylko na egzystencjalne, ale także na duchowe, religijne i transcendentalne pytania. Większa obecność głosicieli słowa Bożego w Internecie oraz poszerzenie ich kompetencji o umiejętności coachingowe i influencerskie stwarza szanse do efektywniejszej ewangelizacji i skuteczniejszej prezentacji treści ewangelicznych.
