The paper describes dia- and isosemiotic relations in the process of transmedia adaptation. The translator plays a difficult role in the globalisation process of multimedia projects, therefore it is crucial for the scientific approach to recognise the set of obligatory interpersonal, intercultural, and communicational skills that lead to a successful participation in the production and internationalisation process of audiovisual and multimedia hypertexts. Examples of good practises in that area can be evaluated from text clusters created due to transmedia adaptation, such as the “Witcher” universe created by Andrzej Sapkowski and recreated for the multimedia by the CD Project RED publishing house.

The article presents the so¬ called transmedia stories that have become more popular in the epoch of media convergence. Transmedia texts are the texts that tell their stories using different media, for example television, Internet or literature. Transmediality can be regarded as a kind of intertextuality. The author also presents several novels whose plot as well as other elements (for example fictive author) refer to popular TV series.

Designing classes with the contribution of students who experienced migration and those without similar experiences becomes a didactic, pedagogical and cul-tural challenge. The aim of this paper is to analyse such phenomena in culture, which may provide inspiration for teachers as to how to think about teaching Polish culture in primary and secondary schools. The field for investigation is defined by the categories of transmediality and transculturality, since in the au-thor’s opinion the constant experiencing of transmediality and transmedia sto-rytelling in culture results in transcultural experiences. The author’s delibera-tions are based on examples from experimental poetry, forum theatre and am-bient literature.

Studies related to artifacts, to what has been traditionally categorized as ‘high’ and ‘minor’ or ‘applied arts’, and to the materiality of art in recent years have been among the core foci of art history. More scholarly attention has also been given to the intersections between visual and material culture, not least in transcultural contexts. This paper seeks to contribute to these issues. Investigating transmaterial and transmedial dynamics between the arts, image-object interrelations as well as phenomena wherein images themselves gave the impulse to the creation of artifacts, the paper analyzes transfer processes transgressing various media and materials, 15th- and 16th-century Italian and Portuguese paintings in their Mediterranean and global entanglements, as well as 19th - and 20th-century artistic and academic approaches to objects in paintings.

This paper explores the contributions of the Prague School scholars to the theory of intermediality. Although the theory of intermediality did not yet exist in the 1930s, scholars of the Prague School presented a number of ideas that today would certainly be understood within the scope of the theory. They perceived what we now call intermediality as part of a comparative exploration of arts, and aimed to establish a comparative semiology of arts. In their articles, these scholars touched upon two important relationships between arts, which are discussed in contemporary theories of intermediality as transmediality and plurimediality/multimediality. With regard to transmediality, this study looks at the broad interest of the Prague scholars' in the interchange of formal and thematic components between various arts, such as painting and literature or film and theatre, and presents their thoughts on the nature of these inter-art relationships. Regarding plurimediality, the Prague School scholars focused mainly on theatre, which they considered one of the most complicated artistic branches. Comparing their thoughts on theatre with those of Wagner, Brecht, Kandinsky and others, this study reveals the uniqueness and complexity of the Prague School's approach to theatre and points to its potential for contemporary intermedial theatre studies.

The text is devoted to the problem of materiality in the perspective of transmedial artistic practices. The object of special interest is the principle of rapprochement between the medium and non-artistic matter, shown on examples of art that intentionally strengthen its relationship with various materials (so-called matter painting), and on the example of art that to a greater extent is subjected to the processes of dematerialization (hyperrealism, conceptualism). In the works of such painters as Antoni Tàpies, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana turning to non-literary materials leads to an interesting tension / rapprochement between the materials and the medium. It brings a retreat from the idealistic aesthetics and ahistorically treated matter, and opens up to non-antropocentrically captured objects. In the case of Jeff Wall’s post-conceptual photography, the principle of closeness draws attention to the ability of photography to annex various media. Transmediality, as it manifests itself in both Wall’s paintings of matter and his photographs, may be called, after Jacques Rancière, incommensurability.

This reflection is inspired by a discussion among leading intermedialists organized by UNISC, Brazil, fall 2021. It included contextualization and conceptualization, i.e. setting the current research within the context of the discipline’s development and the synchronic study of culture, proposing new concepts or defending old ones. The key term ‘in-between’ expresses both a trend in art, and in the self-reflecting intermedial methodology. It becomes obvious that intermedial research opens up wide to analyzing issues of social importance. In our exposition, we assess the debated concepts in terms of their analytical and educational potential in literary and cultural studies, and relate the debate to the Czech environment.

This article discusses autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR, a sensation of ‘pleasant tingling’ or ‘brain tingles’ experienced by people watching videos prepared especially for this purpose and posted primarily on YouTube. With the interest in this phenomenon constantly on the rise, ASMR is nowadays becoming something more than merely a marginal community of online enthusiasts. On the one hand, ASMR is a bottom-up phenomenon. As a social media product it has spread through YouTube, which makes it more difficult to analyse and collect all ASMR videos available online. Therefore, this text focuses on the works of one specific ASMR artist. Known as Ephemeral Rift, he has been among the first ASMR content creators in the Internet. On the other hand, ASMR is a novelty and thus still an interesting issue for scientists who work at the intersection of sciences, such as biology, neurocognitive science, psychology, media studies and cultural studies. What is ASMR? What research is currently available regarding this phenomenon that until recently has been difficult to define? Will ASMR enter the realm of transmedia genres and forms of expression for good? The author tries to answer these questions, bearing in mind that this is still a fresh concept where the ‘old’ meets the ‘brand new’ in the media and therefore requires further research.

This article is a look at contemporary theatre in the context of its changes caused by the development of technology and digital civilization. It aims to show the phenomenon of theatre transmediality, that is the use of new media in the implementation of theatre performances, and to define the basic functions of contemporary theatre in the social reception of art. Currently, there are many theatre directors and creators who use innovative media tools while working on a show or a specific artistic event. There are significant differences between the theatre influenced by new media and the one which developed in a traditional way.

Niniejszy artykuł jest spojrzeniem na teatr współczesny w kontekście jego przemian dokonanych pod wpływem rozwoju technologii i cywilizacji cyfrowej. Ma na celu ukazać zjawisko transmedialności teatralnej, czyli wykorzystywania nowych mediów w realizacji przedstawień teatralnych oraz określić podstawowe funkcje teatru współczesnego w społecznym odbiorze sztuki. Obecnie wielu jest reżyserów i twórców teatru, którzy pracując nad spektaklem bądź konkretnym wydarzeniem artystycznym, posługują się innowacyjnymi narzędziami medialnymi. Teatr funkcjonujący pod wpływem nowych mediów znacznie różni się w odbiorze od teatru wykształconego na drodze tradycji.

 I compare the concept of today intermedial reportage to that before Internet era. Several features of this genre, usually considered as purely contemporary ones, can be found in the works of 20th century Polish writers including interwar period. Multi-, trans- and intermedial reportages, multiplication of their editorial channels and some forms of participation can be discovered before time of World Wide Web, on condition that we take into consideration newspaper editions, not only those in the books. Digital revolution then looks merely like a change of carrier rather than a huge turn in the history of some literary genres. Moreover, what it offers (internet channels, social media), is of much less durability than traditional paper texts, and readers’ participation here is frequently limited to commentaries or some cues for authors. Many of them vanish shortly afterwards, what makes a  ‘participatory culture’ a cultural illusion.

Multiple studies attempt to explain the unflagging interest of literature in fairy tales. Regardless of whatever they define as a reason of the mentioned phenomenon, it is undeniable that the contemporary literary works based on fairy tales still hold the entertainment potential of the original. Therefore, the aim of this article is to explore the reception of classic fairy tales in the contemporary literature, to highlight which text elements are being transformed and to reflect on possible motives of selected travesties. For this purpose, the article follows two important tropes of contemporary studies of fairy tales. Firstly, fairy tales are admittedly being used by their adaptors as a tool for commenting the reality, what makes them a sensors of social changes and cultural developments. That being said, the literary analysis of contemporary fairy tales must include cultural and social studies, as well as the historical aspect. Secondly, defining a specific type of narration as the essence of fairy tales, the article admits that the genre is well suited to exceed any formal limits. The works of three authors were used as a case study. The book Fairy Tales from Malula, written by the intercultural writer Rafik Schami refers to the classic fairy tales both with form and contents and is interpreted in the context of intercultural transfer and interference of fairy tales. Walter Moers, the author of Ensel und Krete, modernizes the form and the contents of classic fairy tales and adapts them to the modern pop-culture, mainly by using the strategy of parody and transmediality. Elfiede Jelinek and her drama Snow White, while not formally a fairy tale, takes up many elements of fairy tales and comments on them. The article interprets this metatextual work as a “reception of reception” and places it in the cultural fairy tale discourse. The author concludes that the very nature of fairy tales predisposes them to transcend borders, both genological and interpretive.

Wie man das ungebrochene Interesse der Literatur an Märchen auch immer erklären will, so steht außer Zweifel, dass die auf Märchen basierenden Werke das Unterhaltungspotential ihrer Prätexte nicht verloren haben. Der Beitrag setzt sich daher zum Ziel, die Rezeption der klassischen Märchen in der deutschsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur zu erforschen, die transformierten Textelemente hervorzuheben und den möglichen Hintergrund gewählter Travestien sichtbar zu machen. Zu diesem Zweck werden zwei wichtige Tendenzen der gegenwärtigen Märchenforschung aufgegriffen. Erstens werden die Märchen von ihren Nacherzählern als ein Realitätskommentar benutzt, wodurch sie zu Zeugnissen sozialer Änderungen werden. Demgemäß muss die Märchenbeschreibung sowohl literatur- als auch kultur-wissenschaftlich, soziologisch und historisch sein. Zweitens wird im Beitrag, basierend auf der Definition des Märchens als einer spezifischen Narrationsweise, argumentiert, dass die Märchen von Natur aus für die Überschreitung formaler Grenzen geeignet sind. Die Werke von drei Autoren werden als Fallbeispiele benutzt. Das Buch Märchen aus Malula, das von dem interkulturellen Schriftsteller Rafik Schami verfasst wurde, weist sowohl durch seine Form als auch seinen Inhalt auf die klassischen Volksmärchen hin und wird in Bezug auf den interkulturellen Transfer und eine Märchen-Interferenz interpretiert. Walter Moers, der Autor von Ensel und Krete, modernisiert die Form und den Inhalt klassischer Märchen und passt sie dank Parodisierung an die moderne Pop-Kultur an. Elfriede Jelinek und ihr Drama Schneewittchen, das formal gesehen kein Märchen ist, greift mehrere Märchen-Elemente auf und kommentiert sie. Die Autorin des Beitrags interpretiert dieses Werk als „Rezeption der Rezeption“ und platziert es in einem kulturellen Märchen-Diskurs.

Bez względu na to, czym rozliczne badania uzasadniają niesłabnące zainteresowanie baśnią, nie ulega wątpliwości, że współczesne dzieła odwołujące się do niej nie utraciły nic z fabularnej nośności i rozrywkowego potencjału swojego pratekstu. Głównym celem artykułu jest wyodrębnienie (na podstawie przeglądu sposobów recepcji klasycznej baśni we współczesnej literaturze niemieckojęzycznej) elementów tekstu ulegających trans-formacji i podjęcie próby zarysowania motywów stojących za trawestacją porządku baśniowego. Tekst podąża w tym celu dwoma ważnymi tropami współczesnych badań nad baśnią: po pierwsze, uznając, że baśnie bywają wykorzystywane przez swoich adaptatorów jako narzędzie służące do komentowania dzisiejszej rzeczywistości, przez co stają się radarem przemian społecznych i ewolucji kulturowych, uwzględnia w literaturoznawczym opisie tekstów aspekt kulturoznawczy, socjologiczny i historyczny. Po drugie, za istotę baśni uznając przede wszystkim konkretny typ narracji, zauważa, że gatunek ten jest wyjątkowo podatny na przekraczanie formalnych granic. Jako przykładów użyto tekstów trzech autorów. Pierwszy z nich, interkulturowy twórca Rafik Schami, nawiązuje do klasycznych baśni ludowych formalnie i treściowo. Interpretacji poddane zostało jego dzieło Baśnie z Maluli w kontekście interkulturowego transferu i interferencji motywów baśniowych. Kolejny twórca, Walter Moers, autor Ensel und Krete, unowocześnia formę i treść baśni, dopasowując je do realiów popkultury. W artykule zwraca się szczególną uwagę na parodyjny oraz transmedialny charakter tekstu i rozważa wynikający z niego popkulturowy potencjał. Ostatnim analizowanym tekstem jest dramat Królewna Śnieżka Elfriede Jelinek, strukturalnie niebędący baśnią, podejmujący jednak jej wątki. Autorka artykułu interpretuje ten metatekstualny utwór jako „recepcję recepcji” i umiejscawia go w kulturowym dyskursie z baśnią. Wnioskiem wypływającym z rozważań jest stwierdzenie, że baśnie w samej swej istocie są predysponowane do przekraczania granic genologicznych, jak i interpretacyjnych.
