The history of terrorism in Poland, despite of its turbulent proceeding, wars, national risings and patriotic conspiracies, is not altogether rich in events. Terrorism seems to be culturally alien to Poles and, apart from few exceptions, has never been adopted in Poland as a method of fighting. This article attempts to answer the question why those who used terror were active only in certain periods of the Polish history, and not in others. The author stresses the fact that in most cases terrorists used acts of violence to draw the public attention to the national or social injustice. The studies on terrorism cannot be conducted, and the war against it cannot be waged effectively, without acknowledging the importance of motivation (ideology) of terrorists. It is not separable from the phenomenon of terrorism, contrarily - it constitutes its integral and most paramount part. One needs only to investigate the history of terrorism in Poland to realize that. Unfortunately, nowadays the knowledge of history is not sufficient to understand the intricate nature of modern terrorism.
