Eugenics as a cultural and historical context for social work with the familyThe social discourse on the use of knowledge in the field of genetic research involving both supporters as well as opponents. First, pointing to the medical aspects, emphasize new possibilities for prevention and treatment of diseases. Others warn against the temptation associated with the manipulation of human nature through sex selection, genetic features children or patching or muscles. As stated Marek Drwięga the problem (and the related moral dilemmas) occurs when - instead of the treatment of diseases - people use gene therapy to "improve their physical and mental faculties" to the consequences "as a unit better to" find themselves "above norm ". The variety of positions and the lack of clarity in the expression of individual opinion partly due to the fact that technological progress is much faster than moral reflection. This leads - according to Michael Sandel - a situation in which people express their concern about reaching into the language of autonomy, justice and individual rights. Unfortunately, this "moral" vision of the world does not bring relief to people and does not release them from anxiety, as they continue to answer the fundamental questions concerning, inter alia, the design of children or human cloning remain open. In the context of genetic engineering and biotechnology is increasingly appearing concept of eugenics - invented in the nineteenth century by Francis Galton and meaning "well-born" - which is the "gate" to the in-vitro procedure. In today's world, where thanks to advanced technologies dominate pleasure, convenience and comfort, eugenics may be manipulating the eternal laws of nature in order to "breed a man without any dysfunction and deficits, or to bring into being an artificial being, human-like in appearance only, and characterized by excellent physical and mental efficiency." The purpose of our article is, therefore, a reflection on the risks associated with the formation of new sources of inequality and identity wounds, which is particularly important in the field of contemporary social work with the family.

Establishing the identity of the dead and the living person is an important element in the functioning of every society. Giving them names is respect for their dignity and a humane approach to every human being. As important as this sphere of life is the state institutions have worked out quite meticulous procedures to regulate the issue.

Armenians appeared in Poland at the end of the Middle Ages. Over the centuries, they assimilated into the Polish culture. In the twentieth century, they considered themselves Poles although to some extent they remained Armenians. In the article the author reflects on the attitudes of contemporary Polish Armenians to Armenia and Armenian diasporas in other countries. A conclusion is drawn that Poland was close to them. They showed great interest in their home country and sometimes would do something for it. Yet it was not close enough to get involved in the struggle for its independence or return to Armenia. First and foremost, they felt Poles.

The article focuses on the representations of animals in video games. Andrzej Pitrus remarks that while there are many examples of animal characters in games, most of them are only acting subjects “disguised” as animals. Few projects try to reconstruct true identity of animals. Yet, the author of the article critically researches interesting attempts made by studios and game designers. Many of them are in fact art projects, but there are also a few realistic animal characters in mainstream games. Recently they have been becoming more and more sophisticated, thanks to the use of new technologies, e.g. motion capture, which provide tools necessary to adequately represent animal behaviours.

Gilbert Keith Chesterton, the author of, amongst others, the Father Brown detective stories is generally analysed, with some exceptions, by Polish criticism in terms of ideology and Catholi- cism. His literary technique is treated with less attention, though his artistic output as such is perhaps valued even more in Poland than in England. This article attempts to fill in the gap by examining the ways in which Chesterton structures some of his stories and the way he introduces and inserts elements of Catholic doctrine into them. This article investigates the recurring motif of various identities for the same character both in selected stories and within the framework of the whole Father Brown cycle. Chesterton’s characters epitomise the dichotomy of human nature: one and the same character may transition from an honest person into a criminal and vice versa. The author also shows the implications of leading a double life and, of course, employs the notion of a double identity as a vehicle for committing a crime.

The object of the analysis are short prose works written by Bulgarian author Alek Popov. The manners of the defining of an identity of a modern person – taking into consideration a psychological, sociological and anthropological context – are conceptual. A concept of the identity has become a pretext for the description of chosen elements of the world introduced in Popov’s prose – such as space-time and creation of heroes.

Aim. The aim of the research is to study the symbolic capital of northern cities (semiotic potential) contained in "urban texts" and the influence of the historical memory of a multiethnic region on the political process of the region and the country as a whole, through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary study of the symbolic space of cities in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). Methods. The study used the cognitive approach, the method of space-time analysis, and the method of historicism and questionnaire survey. Symbolic space as a text is a heterogeneous content. Results. The results of the study show the importance of a symbolic resource as a brand tool, first, depending on the political context and introduction into the collective memory through a constant "reminder" of its importance and significance in the socio-cultural and everyday life of citizens. The resulting databases of monuments served as the basis for compiling a virtual album of monuments and art objects in the cities of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). The research results can practically be applied in the field of education, politics, culture, in the study and promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of the regions of Russia. Conclusions. The urgent problem is the task of preserving the accumulated experience and values, places of memory, relics of the past, as well as ideas about the past that are stored in the memory of its inhabitants and the transfer of this knowledge to the younger generation.

The main aim of this paper is to outline some specific phenomena in the problematic of immigrants and descendants of immigrants of Yugoslavian origin in Denmark. Due to its marginal importance on both sides (Denmark as well as the former Yugoslavian countries) the topic has been neglected academically. The focus of this paper is mostly concentrated on the question of belonging and identity of younger generations. Therefore, it contains a summary of the historical, cultural and social background experienced by migrants in their communities. It will also contextualize the main characteristics of specific aspects of everyday life in detail. Further, topics regarding identity with its various aspects will be discussed. A crucial part is based on the field research itself. The opinions of interviewed migrants open up a discussion about current topics and show unexpected results. The stress is put on an overview of the relations between the majority Danish society and the young migrants. Danish society possesses certain cultural codes, which can be very difficult to recognize and internalize for foreign individuals.

The authors discuss a rarely raised topic concerning the role of education in life in penitentiary isolation. Basic issues of education, learning, and social rehabilitation against the background of classical rehabilitation pedagogy. The authors present the axiological concepts and the concepts of rehabilitation. The situation of people in isolation arouses significant interest. Awareness of the high rate of recidivism indicates that, in addition to rehabilitation through therapy and work, auxiliary institutions such as prison schools should also play an important role. It is education that allows many of the basic needs of incarcerated people to be met, thus giving them the opportunity for a better start, once they leave prison.

The purpose of the article is to show the socio-cultural changes affecting education. Based on the analysis of domestic and foreign literature, the issues of emancipation, the model of civilization, the identity of the individual, time and space, as well as work and interpersonal relations are shown. They are relevant to educational activities aimed at shaping a student ready to function in a constantly changing reality. The epercussions of socio-cultural changes make it necessary for students to be able to form their own identity and to develop a sense of civic identity, to be accepted, to have the opportunity to externalize their own values, to seek and discover their own individuality. In the course of education, a student should be prepared to overcome imposed limitations, and eventually improve the reality in which he has come to live. All this requires constant activity, lifelong learning and conscious self-improvement.
