Apart from traditional forms of interaction such as diplomacy, economy or military means, it is also important to have an impact on the culture and values of other societies. One of the tools for this service is the media and institutions involved in building social bonds, disseminating knowledge about a given country or its language. Depending on the state, these elements may be more or less effectively used in foreign policy. The case of the People’s Republic of China, with its aspirations to the global power, and the current system of power, seems to be a particularly interesting and therefore is the purpose of this study.

In the case of television images, and the meanings they carry, symbolic interaction mainly concernshuman communities. At the moment when signs and things do not match each other, when theimage, in this case – television, no longer reflects the truth about reality, participation in the space ofthe text and image becomes complex and difficult to read. In the new media space in which old andnew media collide, it becomes necessary to have specific skills in reading messages, ways of seeingand perceiving media images, and competences in various reception areas referred to as media literacy. The lack of time for ourselves makes it easy for television stations to influence our receivingpreferences and attitudes by means of the audiovisual productions they broadcast. A given image isalways associated with some social context which, in turn, has an impact on this image. A particulargroup of viewers brings specific interpretations and observations to a given image, thus influencingits meaning and impact. Carried out in terms of both hermeneutics and semiotics, the analysis andinterpretation of television visual representations will depend on the contexts taken from the life ofthe recipient.

This article is focused on intertextuality in Houellebecq’s work. It describes his philosophical influences such as Comte or Schopenhauer, who helped him to form his own ideas about life and humanity. It also points out his literary influences such as Baudelaire or Lautréamont, about whom Houellebecq refers often with admiration. In the end it evokes a more discreet intertextuality which is rarely exposed when we talk about his work.

Dialogue studies suggest keys to understanding communicative behavior. The purpose of this article is to put forth a more complex and comprehensive approach to the analysis of interaction that incorporates quantitative metrics to reveal its entire communicative depth. The methods of discourse-analysis, initiative-response analysis, a theory of speech acts, conversational, cognitive, stylistic, statistical analyses as well as descriptive and interpretative methods have been united in one system to interpret the procedure and results of the cooperative and conflict dialogues chosen as an example. The integrated methodology produces a broader investigative view of communication, also because it allows measuring the level of dominance of interlocutors and explaining it in terms of power relations. In this way, it contributes to a better understanding of the multifaceted nature of dialogue without any characteristics to be underestimated. The methodology is an open system and is suggested as a sample of dialogical communication research.

This paper has two purposes. From the personal side, the topic was chosen because I am interested in the history of psychological operations. To benefit the reader, I address psychological operations in selected military conflicts after the Second World War in order to consider this issue. The goal of this study is to depict examples of the psychological operations conducted after World War II as part of military operations and examine the increasing importance of these issues to all involved in the battle. The article describes methods and means of psychological activities carried out by both sides in conflicts against both soldiers and civilians. Most attention in the article is devoted to the potential of the United States, which is without doubt a leader in the development of psychological operations. US PSYOP equipment is the most sophisticated and covers a broad spectrum of diverse technological means of influence. It results especially from the permanent engagement of US troops in military activities in various parts of the world after the end of World War II. Psychological operations have been an essential element of warfare since ancient times. The purpose of psychological operations is to induce or reinforce foreign attitudes and behaviour favourable to the originator’s objectives. It has been used throughout history to influence foreign groups and leaders. Moreover, psychological operations targeted the enemy’s will to fight. In various conflicts after World War II, we can observe more and more attention being paid to psychological operations. Today we can observe arevolution in PSYOP capabilities. This is related to the development of modern technologies, especially the internet, which gives new opportunities for information transfer.

Article raises questions about the criteria of democracy, dispelling commonplace, colloquial, but the media supporting, illusions related to the assessment of what democracy is, what democratic is and what a democracy is not, and as democracy must not be considered. Here are stripped simplistic, dichotomous divisions: the democratic-undemocratic. Democracy, democratic criteria are syndromatic. Similarly incorrect assertions are identifying, by way of implication, democracy with a democratic influence, pressure. Democratic system, its standards, procedures, institutions are often only a curtain ... for undemocratic, or even anti-democratic forms pressure of political actors. Here, under the banner of ‘democracy’, ‘will of the people’, ‘public interest’, etc., democracy can be ... disassembled.

Our presentation will include an analysis of the financial, economic and banking terminology adopted by the Romanian language, of the process of adapting these Italian terms to the peculiarities of the borrowing language, and a statistics of borrowings based on the most representative Romanian lexicographical works.

The paper attempts to present theoretical considerations on the problem of using synaesthesia as a new tool in marketing communication. The author demonstrates the prospects for sensory communication’s development – especially its influence on customer’s perception. Using sensory branding methodologies is surely a big challenge for marketing managers, but on the other hand the ethical dimension of communication which appeals to our five senses is controversial. The paper discusses the areas that are affected by manipulation. The main problem is that it could be impossible to use sensory communication in ethical and effective way in the same time.

In the essay, the titular problem of old age is related to the great literary canon, within which the history of novel is established and developed. The canon itself, in terms of H. Bloom, means a perpetual and creative source of struggle against the literary traditions’ influence, which is also to shape Kundera’s novels and essays. Thus the old age is conceived as abroad metaphor consisting of the great works of the great precursors, who invented us along with our modern world. Furthermore, Kundera allows his readers to associate the old age motif with awide range of often opposite properties alike slowness, carefulness, lightness, triviality, laughter, transparence, non-presence, or non-essence, etc. These properties are rendered by aseries of the writer’s favorite figures, to which belong: irony, ellipsis, and litotes that are to determine the central motif of vis comica inherited by Kundera from his masters, Cervantes, Rabelais, Diderot, and Sterne.

Tento kánon, v souladu s teorií Harolda Blooma, tvoří nekonečný tvůrčí zdroj boje s literární tradicí, boje, který se rovněž zrcadlí v románech Milana Kundery. It is a general misconception in some quarters that influence of one literary work on others is a denial of the author’s claim to originality. That a writer influences another author does not mean that the newly produced work lacks originality. In fact, that act shows resourcefulness of the influenced author. This paper ascertains that intertextuality is established in the works of upcoming African writers and the mastery of its application greatly helps to boost the confidence and maturity of the writers as exemplified in Fágúnwà’s novels. The influence of some artists on the literary productions of other writers is explored. With proper acknowledgment, the terrifying ghost of plagiarism is nailed to the cross by the writer. This study concludes that no writer could actually claim that he has not been influenced by one writer or the other. Therefore, borrowing is not a literary sin but failure to acknowledge others’ influence on you is hypocritical and condemnable.

Linguistic creativity is a manifestation of communities’ and cultures’ innovativeness. The initial results will be presented of an empirical project analysing the character and speed of the social spread of winged words and neologisms in a microblogging site, using the tools of social network analysis applied to big-scale data. Investigating the diffusion of linguistic innovation requires an approach pooling competences from human, social, and computational sciences. Such a complex systems perspective can lead to a deeper understanding of how mutual relations and communication between Internet users impact the cultural evolution of language in time and space, and the shape and dynamics of the interactions themselves, delivering quantitative estimates on the expansion of linguistic expressions and allowing the prediction of future trends and their scale.

Aim Religion in India continues to remain a male-bastion with men occupying positions of leadership in religious institutions and wielding inordinate control. Against this backdrop, this research analyses the recent emergence of women claiming their space in religion, with specific focus on decision making powers, accessibility to religious careers, and rights and entitlements to religious finances and accruements. Methods The review made use of extensive and in-depth analysis off secondary sources of research and informative materials available, specifically on the subject matters of religion, women and modern feminist campaigns. Major sources utilized were newspapers articles, journal articles, scholarly research on related topics and court hearings and judgments of relevant cases. Results The analysis reveals that there is clear progress by feminist movements in challenging inequality in religion, by demanding equal access to places of worship and questioning religious practices that exclude them. Women are calling out male leadership where they have abused their power under the guise of faith. Feminist movements are also demanding women’s participation in the financial endowments that accrues to religion. Women are also making determined entry into careers related to religion. The growing number of institutions that provide religious training to women are not only enabling women to take up priestly and other religious roles, but also equipping them to question patriarchal interpretation of scriptures. Conclusion While the rising feminist movement towards obtaining equality within religion becomes quite apparent, one of the contributing factors could be the consistency of the judiciary in upholding the constitutional rights granted to women. Specifically, the Supreme Court, with its judgements and progressive interpretations of religious laws, has aided the women in their struggle. Since the questioning of patriarchal control of religious structures is happening almost parallelly across all major religions in India, it can also be theorised that there is a rising feministic consciousness that underpins the quest for religious equality and equal treatment.

The purpose of this work is to show the phenomenon of fraud committing methods “grandson” and “policeman”. The offence of fraud is an act of high social harm, which victims become elderly, living alone or being alone in home at the time of committing the offence. In the literature of the subject for a long time it is shown that the elderly are preferred by offenders age group, as they show the limitations in the functioning of the physical, mental and social development. The offender, using a number of mechanisms of social influence and changing the way it operates, lead older people to huge losses, not only the material but also psychological (a letdown for help anytime soon or loss of faith in the pure intentions of other people) and social (loss of confidence in the people and deepening insulation). Note one more accuracy, namely, if the elderly betting on victims of crime is a constant element of the activities of the perpetrators, the offender themselves change their methods of operation, adapting them to the social changes and knowledge about our operation. Perpetrators have a great understanding, what needs are most important for potential victims, and they still improve their knowledge in the area of tools to influence social development. Changes in the behavior of the perpetrators within these methods affect crime detection by law enforcement and the implementation of preventive measures adversely. Practice of criminal in Poland lasts several years, and the offenders, by modifying the method of operation, made the crime a steady source of illicit income.
