The article presents the results of the research into the pace of speech of the students with oligophasia which results from the mild intellectual disability as compared to their peers with no disabilities. Both quantitative and qualitative aspects of the speech were analysed. The analysed criteria included: the number of syllables and phones used in the 30-second utterances, the number of pauses made and their characteristics, and the percentage of the pauses within the utterance. The material obtained in the research through the usage of Audacity software was subsequently analysed with the use of Shapiro–Wilk test and Mann–Whitney test.

The article examines the question, rarely discussed in literature, of speech dysfluencies in intellectually disabled persons. The description and diagnostic interpretation of the occurrence of the speech dysfluency phenomenon in the intellectually disabled is highly significant from the standpoint of logopedic theory and practice. The present article is a report on the results of tests in a 34-person group, whose goal was first of all to answer the following questions: 1) What is the percentage of persons with pathological speech dysfluencies among intellectually disabled teenagers and adults? 2) Which symptoms of pathological dysfluency occur most often in the intellectually disabled? 3) In the tested subjects, do other accompanying symptoms occur with dysfluency, which enable diagnosing speech disorder entities and programming diverse therapies? The authors also discuss the question of the relationship between sex plus the degree of intellectual disability, and the intensity and type of dysfluencies.

Speech and language are important in the mental and emotional development of etery human being. Various speech disorders that affect the daily functioning, communication and acquiring the basic human needs can disrupt the functioning of a person in society. In the case of people with intellectual disabilities, this is an oligophasia, or the speech disorder characteristic for people with reduced intellectual ability. In this article, the author draws attention to the importance of a detailed speech diagnosis, which is the basis for the later therapeutic process. He presents in on the example of a child with moderate degree intellectual disability, using the Afa-Skala test, while at the same time demonstrating its usefulness in diagnosing the intellectually disabled childrens language disorders. In the final part of the text the author deals with the problem of speech therapy in children with these disorders.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.27.13 The present article attempts to evaluate the language development of 6-year-old twins with neurological damage developed during the perinatal period. First, the author discusses theoretical issues related to the most frequently occurring cerebrovascular diseases in children and their consequences leading to speech development disorders. Then, a neurologopedic diagnosis procedure with the use of selected research tools is described.

Mateusz Szurek, An overview of tools useful in the speech diagnosis of a child with intellectual disability. Interdisciplinary Contexts of Special Pedagogy, no. 27, Poznań 2019. Pp. 223–248. Adam Mickiewicz University Press. ISSN 2300-391X. e-ISSN 2658-283X. DOI: https://doi.org/10.14746/ikps.2019.27.11 Object literature offers standards of diagnostic procedure for oligophasia. The book market still lacks, however, tools that would be developed for the purpose of logopaedic diagnoses of persons with intellectual disabilities (ID), which could fully assess the speech of a child with oligophasia. Presently, specialists utilise tools used for diagnosing other disorders or create their own research tools. The choice of relevant diagnostic tools, and, as a result – later result analysis, is a complex process mostly due to the great variation of functioning of persons with ID, and due to the lack of developed reference norms for the population of persons with ID (conclusions on language development in this group are by and large quite general, frequently formulated intuitively and without support by empirical studies). As a result, the author concluded an analysis of diagnostic tools available on the book market that could provide aid in the logopaedic assessment of a child with ID, stressing the need to create an original tool adapted for diagnosing the speech disorder of oligophasia.

The article presents the issue of logopaedic diagnostic treatment which was conducted on the patient with cerebral palsy her late childhood and early adulthood. The authors carried out the evaluation of the language acquisition level (both oral and written) and the assessment of nonverbal communication. Types of deficits in communication and their determinants were identified, which constituted the basis of logopaedic diagnosis. Referring to the results of their own studies, the authors indicated the need of conducting longitudinal studies in logopaedics in case of patients with coupled disorders as well as creating and standardizing techniques and diagnostic tools that could be applied to carry out longitudinal studies on the groups of patients.

In the article, the communicative competence of a 12 year old girl with cerebral palsy and mild intellectual disability was characterised. These developmental disorders exert a significant impact on child’s skills in the field of speech expression and perception. Moreover, they lead to speech disorders: oligophasia and dysarthria. The case study method was used to conduct the research. In the first part of this article the authors described two issues: cerebral palsy and intellectual disability. They indicated the causes, as well as the most common symptoms of these developmental disorders. In the next part the authors provided an extensive description of various diagnostic tests. They enabled the researchers to explore, among others, speech expression and perception, as well as phonematic hearing. The results of these different tests were thoroughly analysed. Consequently, it has been proved that the level of child’s linguistic and communication skills corresponds to the results achieved by children with similar deficits and disorders.

PL
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań nad tempem wypowiedzi uczniów szkoły specjalnej dotkniętych oligofazją o podłożu niepełnosprawności intelektualnej w stopniu lekkim odniesionych do grupy kontrolnej – rówieśników niedotkniętych żadnymi zaburzeniami rozwojowymi. Analizy wypowiedzi uczniów objęły wybrane ilościowe i jakościowe aspekty mowy.

Speech disorders occurring in schizophrenia (schizophasia) and intellectual disability (oligophasia) are very complex issues, because of symptoms, which depend on the degree and type of disability or the severity of the disease. The article presents a case study of an adult woman with oligophasia and schizophasia, the history of her treatment and therapy, as well as the current social functioning. Different types of linguistic behavior were analyzed during the diagnosis. The following tools were used to assess the current state of speech i.a.: KSOS, the original picture questionnaire and MoCA. In the exemplification function were presented the transcriptions of the respondent’s statement and the graphomotoric products. The speech therapy diagnosis showed that the linguistic and communicative behaviors of the woman with the intellectual disability and mental illness are at a relatively good level. This woman is a highly functioning person thanks to appropriate pharmacological treatment, therapy and family support.

Opis i interpretacja diagnostyczna występowania zjawiska niepłynności mówienia u osób niepełnosprawnych intelektualnie ma istotną wagę z punktu widzenia teorii i praktyki logopedycznej.

W artykule przedstawiono problematykę logopedycznego postępowania diagnostycznego przeprowadzonego w przypadku pacjentki z mózgowym porażeniem dziecięcym w okresie późnego dzieciństwa i wczesnej dorosłości.

The article discusses issues related to the specificity of speech development of people with Down syndrome and speech therapy, with particular emphasis on augmentative and alternative communication therapy (AAC). Stories (case studies) of three people with Down syndrome and intellectual disability are presented, based on conversations with their mothers. Data analysis allowed for the collection of extensive research material indicating difficulties associated with the process of speech therapy of patients with complex communication needs. Moreover, collected data allowed us to recognize the need to combine classic speech therapy with augmentative and alternative communication therapy and to educate society more broadly about AAC. The article presents examples of good practices aimed at improving the communication situation of people with complex communication needs and their families.
