The Taser (full name: Thomas A. Swift’s Electric Rifle) is an electric stun gun, manufactured by Taser International. Its operational range varies from 4.60 metres to 10.6 metres1 thanks to wire electrodes that remain connected to the main device. The electrodes penetrate the skin and soft tissues of the person who is the target for temporary immobilisation. The high voltage generated at low intensity causes severe pain and disruption of the nervous system, resulting in temporary total paralysis. The Taser is a device of direct coercion, whose use is permissible for widespread application in cases where conservative methods of controlling dangerous situations have been exhausted. The natural question that arises is the impact and influence of the electrically active electrodes fired on the surrounding tissues. The aim of the study was a histopathological evaluation and comparison of the effects of the cartridges from the Taser X2 and Taser X26 in terms of the local reaction on a portion of the skin and subcutaneous tissue of domestic pigs fresh from a slaughterhouse. Fragments of the tissue were subjected to histological treatment and analysed using an optical microscope. There were changes in the microscopic image indicating mechanical damage to the epidermis and subcutaneous layers of the dermis due to the use of the devices researched.

Estimation of effectiveness of usage of liquid organic fertilizer in the context of rational land use: a case study of Ukraine

The purpose of the article – to perform comparative analysis of the economic effectiveness of the 10 samples of organic fertilizer of pig farm, bio humus “Humivit” and mineral fertilizers (Nitroamofoska, ammonium nitrate, carbamide) on the example of oats. The study used the following methods: abstract-logical, cash-analytical, cash-equivalent, expert, monographic. The research was done in Ukraine. The results of the comparative analysis of economic effectiveness of the 10 samples of organic pig fertilizer, bio humus “Humivit” and mineral fertilizers (Nitroamofoska, ammonium nitrate, carbamide) in the example of oats on the green mass show that the use of organic fertilizers sample number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 is an economically effective, while organic fertilizers of sample number 7, 8, 9 are economically inefficient. By the main indicators of economic effectiveness (coefficients of payback, conditional additional profit, level of profitability) organic fertilizers sample number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 have significant competitive advantages over the studied brands of mineral fertilizers and bio humus “Humivit”. The use of organic pig fertilizers, except the sample number 8, in economic terms for the impact on potential soil fertility is more effective than bio humus “Humivit”. The most significant economic benefits for the impact on potential soil fertility are samples of organic fertilizers pig number 1, 5, 10, whose application generates the lowest cost price of humus. The element of novelty is that with using the author’s scientific and methodical approach it was conducted the estimation of economic effectiveness of the liquid organic fertilizer of pig farm for the impact on potential soil fertility.

This article analyses an excerpt from the third song of Georgics. Virgil described a disease that attacked many animal species, including cattle, horses, sheep, pigs and humans. On the basis of the described symptoms and the number of species attacked by the plague, it should be concluded that the poet described anthrax – a zoonotic disease caused by the Bacillus anthracis bacterium.

The links between the producers of pork and zones of raw material deliveries in Grodno region have been analyzed. Dependence of the profitability of pig–breeding production on parameters most influencing it in Grodno region has been established. Some directions of raising the efficiency of the branch have been suggested.

As a part of the strategies identified during the Estates General of livestock farming, the Region of Piedmont has financed a project in order to verify the level of appreciation of medium heavy swine in the swine sector. The Region has involved the Department of Commodity Science of Turin University and APS Piemonte (pig farmers association) in carrying out a specified study [Aceto et al. 2011; Peira et al. 2011]. The results of the study intended to investigate the speck supply chain are set forth below.

Животные не способны говорить на человеческом языке и документировать свой опыт, чтобы создать великую историю животных. Вместо этого у них есть друзья-люди. Поэтому косвенным средством достижения поставленной Баратаем цели могут быть рассказы о животных, их биографии, включенные в личные записи людей. В статье представлены истории о свиньях, записанные в воспоминаниях Антонины Жабиньской, Дороты Суминьской и Сай Монтгомери, которые внесли свой вклад в историю животных.

In his writings, Éric Baratay advances that the chronicles of people should be supplemented with animal histories as he stands by the side of non-human animals and supports attempts to free history from its solely anthropocentric perspective. Animals are not capable of speaking any human language, they cannot record their experiences in writing / words, which makes them unable to create the great animal history. However, they have human friends. Therefore, the indirect approach, meeting to the goal intended by Baratay halfway, may rely on the stories about animals, their biographies written in the personal notes. The article presents the stories of pigs recorded in the autobiographies and memoirs of Antonina Żabińska, Dorota Sumińska, and Sy Montgomery, which are contributions to the history of animals.

Zwierzęta nie posługują się ludzkim językiem, nie potrafią zapisać swoich doświadczeń, by tworzyć wielką historię zwierząt. Mają za to ludzkich przyjaciół. Zabiegiem pośrednim umożliwiającym osiągnięcie wytyczonego przez Barataya celu mogą być opowieści o zwierzętach, ich zapisane biografie w osobistych notatkach ludzi. Swine breeding is a branch of agriculture with high level of development and traditional in Belarus. The problem of basic directions in development of swine breeding is examined in the paper. In conclusion the main reserves for growth of the economic efficiency of pork production are found in strengthening of food reserve and using of complete feed mixture balanced on feed protein, increasing of leguminous plants and many other factors.

Stockbreeding is a fast growing branch of agriculture. But in modern economic conditions Republic of Belarus has many problems with it. On the contrary the countries of Europe achieved big results in meat production. In most of them branch is export oriented. The authors analyze situation in meat production in the Republic of Belarus and give their opinion thereupon. The present conditions are unfavourable and the volume of meat production is falling. It is necessary for the government to assist meat producers.
