The aim of the study reported in this article was to identify the knowledge or skills deficits which make Polish students of foreign languages fail to understand specialised discourse written in their second language (L2). The author analysed the translations proposed by French philology students for a fragment of a French academic text, particularly the translation errors consisting in source text’s meaning transformation (i.e. misinterpretation, incorrect meaning, nonsense). The analysis allows to assume that these errors are the direct result of insufficient knowledge of the L2 in connection with wrong techniques of words’ meaning verification.

This research studies the forms of verbalization of Kazakh nomad’s culture (realias, toponyms and anthroponyms) in Polish language by Adolf Januszkiewicz, their translation into Russian and Kazakh, author's evaluation and commentary. The theoretical base of the research are the works on nomadology and linguistic translation. Translation model is described in relation to the texts that served as the material for the research. The causes of translation errors are revealed by comparing the original to the three translations using methods like continuous sampling, comparison, transformations, componential analysis, and reverse translation. It was found that, in Russian translation, errors are caused by the lack of knowledge of Kazakh linguistic culture and one-sidedness of the translation commentary, while in Kazakh translation, errors happened because of the intermediary translation due to language constraints, and the absence of scientific commentary.

Artykuł przedstawia problematykę błędów pojawiających się w lokalizacji językowej gier wideo. Do omówienia głównych aspektów tego zagadnienia została wybrana polska gra komputerowa Książę i Tchórz (1998, Metropolis) oraz jej wersja rosyjska (Галадор – Проклятие принца; 1999, 7-ой волк). Szczególną uwagę poświęcono również rozgraniczeniu terminów „lokalizacja językowa” oraz „tłumaczenie” gier wideo, klasyfikacji najistotniejszych błędów w tym rodzaju przekładu oraz ich możliwym przyczynom.

The article depicts the question of translation errors found in the linguistic localisation of video games. A Polish computer game Książę i Tchórz (Metropolis, 1998) and its Russian version (Галадор – Проклятие принца, 7-ой волк, 1999) have been chosen to present the most important aspects of the aforementioned issue. Special attention was also drawn to differentiating between the notions of linguistic localisation and translation of video games, classifying crucial errors in this type of translation and their possible reasons.

Настоящая статья посвящена обсуждению ошибок, появившихся в переводе польского трудового кодекса на русский язык, опубликованном Издательством Wolters Kluwer в 2019 году. Перевод отдельных правовых положений из печатной версии сравнивается с их переводом, помещённом в Правовой информационной системе LEX. Особое внимание уделяется ошибкам, возникающим из-за недостаточного знания способов перевода нормативных актов и из-за отсутствия знаний в области права. Подчёркивается, что чрезвычайно важно последовательно использовать тот или иной термин в правовом тексте. Не следует также применять термины из разных правовых систем. На основании проведённого анализа можно заключить, что электронная версия перевода отличается более высоким качеством, чем печатная.

The article is devoted to the analysis of errors that occurred in the translation of the Polish labour code into Russian, published by the Wolters Kluwer in 2019. The translation of legal provisions from the printed version is compared with their translation, published in the LEX Legal Information System. Particular attention is paid to errors arising from a lack of awareness of how to translate legal texts and a lack of knowledge of the law. It is emphasized that the consistent use of a particular term in a legal text is important. Also, terms from different legal systems should not be used. According to the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that the electronic version of the translation is better than the printed one.

Niniejszy artykuł został poświęcony omówieniu błędów, które pojawiły się w przekładzie polskiego kodeksu pracy na język rosyjski wydanym przez Wolters Kluwer w 2019 roku. Tłumaczenie wybranych przepisów prawnych z wersji drukowanej zostało porównane z ich przekładem opublikowanym w Systemie Informacji Prawnej LEX. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona błędom wynikającym z niewystarczającej wiedzy, jak należy tłumaczyć akty normatywne, oraz z braku wiedzy z zakresu prawa. Podkreślono, że niezwykle ważna jest zasada konsekwentnego używania danego terminu w obrębie całego tekstu prawnego. Nie należy również stosować terminów z różnych systemów prawnych. Na podstawie przeprowadzonej analizy można stwierdzić, że wersja elektroniczna tłumaczenia cechuje się wyższą jakością niż wydana drukiem.
