Enterprise is currently a desired conduct or set or traits. Entrepreneurial people are more often successful in their professional lives, both in terms of innovativeness, satisfaction as well as financially. Therefore, research has stressed the need to develop entrepreneurial potential in students so that, upon graduation, they are able to successfully adapt to the ever-changing conditions of the labour market and, as a result, bring their plans of professional careers to a successful fruition. Enterprise is a strongly desired set of traits and attitudes in professional translators. The article presents the research results of the nature of the entrepreneurial potential in students in the translation specialisation. These results are presented in comparison with the entrepreneurial potential of students of different programmes.

As one of the leading adult human activities, occupational activity has numerous functions and has an impact on a person’s life as a whole. Work-related experience is subjective and its evaluation changes with each stage of adulthood. One of the contexts in which the phenomena related to work are assessed by an individual is life success. In the period of middle adulthood, where the phenomenon of midlife review occurs, the category of life success and achievements stands out even more clearly. This study presents the realm of experience related to female work in the middle adulthood period. The reported research was conducted in a qualitative approach.

Praca zawodowa jako jedna z wiodących aktywności człowieka dorosłego, pełni liczne funkcje oddziałując na całokształt egzystencji. Doświadczenie pracy jest subiektywne, a jego wartościowanie zmienia się wraz z kolejnymi etapami dorosłości. Jednym z kontekstów, w których zjawiska związane z pracą zawodową są oceniane przez jednostkę, jest sukces życiowy. W okresie średniej dorosłości, na którą przypada bilans połowy życia, kategoria sukcesu życiowego i składających się na niego osiągnięć wyraźnie się uwidaczniają. W opracowaniu przedstawiony został świat doświadczeń związanych z pracą kobiet w okresie średniej dorosłości. Omawianie badania zrealizowano w podejściu jakościowym.

Z perspektywy analizy transakcyjnej człowiek, aby móc funkcjonować i rozwijać się optymalnie, powinien dysponować właściwie ukształtowanymi, pozostającymi w równowadze trzema stanami osobowości – wewnętrznym Rodzicem, Dorosłym i Dzieckiem. Przy czym o równowadze tej w przeważającej mierze decyduje wewnętrzny Dorosły. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie punktów wspólnych analizy transakcyjnej i podejścia skoncentrowanego na rozwiązaniach jako orientacji pracy pomocowej i edukacyjnej z osobą dorosłą oraz możliwości włączania zasobów obu podejść w pracy nad osiąganiem przez klientów celów życiowych poprzez wzmacnianie stanu Ja-Dorosły. Wykorzystywanie w pracy z klientem technik AT i PSR sprzyja wzmacnianiu i aktualizowaniu potencjału i sprawczości osoby, co przekłada się na poczucie satysfakcji, zadowolenia i szczęścia. Przedstawione w niniejszym opracowaniu propozycje wykorzystywania AT i PSR we wzmacnianiu stanu Ja-Dorosłego odzwierciedlają doświadczenia pomocowe autorki w tym zakresie.

In Transactional Analysis, optimal human functioning and development are ensured when the equilibrium of three properly developed ego-states, the Parent, the Adult and the Child, is maintained. The equilibrium relies predominantly on the functioning of the Adult. The aim of this article is to explore potential points of convergence between Translational Analysis (TA) and Solution-Focused Approach (SFA). Both approaches focus on help and educational work with adults. Thus, a question arises if the resources available in both approaches can be jointly used when working with clients on their life objectives through strengthening their Adult ego-state. Mixed application of AT and SFA fosters the increase and development of the potential and agency, which leads to a sense of satisfaction, well-being and happiness. The proposal to use TA and SFA together in order to strengthen the Adult ego-state of the client is drawn from the author’s own experience as helper.

Early adulthood is a time of very dynamic developmental changes. The transition to labour market is one of the key developmental tasks at this time, whose course often has an impact on the entire professional life of an individual. In the context of academic education, it is important to highlight the first transition of students from education to labour. This perspective imposes specific targets and challenges on academic education. Therefore, in this article, the author has presented the results of research on some aspects of the pre-transition situation of the students of translation specialization of the Applied Linguistics department at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. The research results are discussed within the context of the nature of the translation profession.

Sukces zawodowy emigrantów polskich w Wielkiej Brytanii a ich aktywność edukacyjna

Achieving success, including professional success, is a common goal of people. Success is usually measured by an individual who subjectively assesses the meaning of given achievements and classifies them as success. Success is conditioned by various factors, including achievements and activities in the field of adult education, and overcoming different difficulties and obstacles. The issue of success is particularly interesting as far as emigrants are concerned. They leave their homeland in the hope that they will succeed, also professionally, and they choose a country that offers more favourable conditions for success. The aim of the research was to examine the relationship between success in life of Polish emigrants in Great Britain and their educational activity. The study group included 128 emigrants who achieved professional success in Great Britain. The research revealed that the majority of Poles who achieved professional success in Great Britain were successful in the field that reflected their professional aspirations. Moreover, the respondents were sceptical as far as the achievement of analogous success in Poland was concerned. Almost 1/3 of the study group perceived the relationship between their educational activity and the sense of success as clear and unambiguous. Respondents with higher education exhibited a higher sense of professional success. The study does not exhaust the issue and it constitutes a fragment of a more comprehensive research on the functioning of Polish emigrants in Great Britain.

Sukces, w tym sukces zawodowy, jest powszechnym dążeniem człowieka. Jego miarę stanowi przeważnie subiektywne nadawanie znaczeń przez jednostkę poszczególnym osiągnięciom i klasyfikowanie ich jako sukcesy. Osiąganie sukcesu warunkowane jest licznymi czynnikami, w tym osiągnięciami i aktywnością edukacyjną dorosłych, jest również związane z pokonywaniem licznych trudności i przeszkód. W szczególnej sytuacji są emigranci, którzy opuszczają ojczyznę w nadziei osiągnięcia sukcesu życiowego, w tym zawodowego w kraju, który w ich ocenie stwarza bardziej sprzyjające do tego warunki. Celem badań było poszukiwanie związku między sukcesami zawodowymi polskich emigrantów w Wielkiej Brytanii a ich aktywnością edukacyjną. Badania zrealizowano w grupie 128 emigrantów, którzy odnieśli sukces zawodowy w Wielkiej Brytanii. Ustalono, że sukces zawodowy odniesiony przez Polaków w Anglii w przypadku zdecydowanej większości badanych odpowiadał ich aspiracjom zawodowym. Ponadto badani emigranci byli wyraźnie sceptyczni w ocenie możliwości osiągnięcia analogicznego sukcesu w Polsce. W ocenie niespełna 1/3 badanych związek między ich aktywnością edukacyjną a poczuciem sukcesu zawodowego jest jednoznaczny i wyraźny. Wyższe wykształcenie sprzyjało wyższemu poczuciu sukcesu zawodowego. Niniejsze badania nie wyczerpują podjętego problemu. Stanowią one fragment obszerniejszych analiz funkcjonowania polskich emigrantów w Wielkiej Brytanii.
