The study explored the desirable character attributes of teachers and provided specific behavioral guidelines for being a good teacher in Korea. The Delphi method was used. Ten virtues and 88 behavioral guidelines were created from three rounds of surveys involving 22 Korean panelists. Results indicated that most of the virtues identified in this study were consistent with the results of Western studies. However, a sense of humor regarded as a desirable characteristic of teachers in previous studies did not emerge as a virtue from Korean panelists. Morality rarely mentioned in Western research was included in this study. The characteristics required of a Korean teacher seem to be based on Confucianism.

The objective of this study was to examine the effect of peer tutoring on college students’ academic achievement and, as well, their competencies in communication and collaboration. In particular, we investigated whether or not the effect of peer tutoring depends on the role taken in peer tutoring. 373 Korean college students attending peer tutoring participated in this study. A pre-post design employing a self-report questionnaire was used. The results indicated that peer tutoring improved both academic achievement and communicative and collaborative skills. The findings also suggested that the effect of peer-tutoring on academic achievement and responsibility for teamwork was valid only with regard to those in the role of tutees. The implications of this study are discussed.

This study aims to examine the relationship among critical thinking, grit, and creativity, which will be core competencies in a future society, and to verify the moderating effect of grit as an individual psychological factor between the two variables. For this purpose, a Likert survey is conducted on undergraduate students in a Korean university; and 129 responses are used. The result shows that, first, critical thinking and grit have significant influences on creativity. Second, the moderating effect of grit on the relationship between critical thinking and creativity is significant. The finding indicates that the higher the grit, the higher the positive relationship between critical thinking and creativity. This result implies that to increase the creativity of college students, an education that increases both critical thinking and grit is necessary.

The objective of this study was to examine which educational experiences in general education impact on the student’s learning outcomes. The survey included 1,201 students in South Korea. Hierarchical multiple regressions were used. The result showed that educational experiences in general education demonstrated greater predictive power for the student’s learning outcomes than individual and institutional characteristics. However, not all educational experiences positively predicted learning outcomes. Educators are advised to improve general education towards better educational experiences in a way that encourages teaching higherorder thinking, evaluation and feedback, and active class participation.
