The article presents research on students’ independent self-learning. The applied method was an analysis of intentionally prepared documents. While conducting the research, an attempt was made to recognise: the manner of the understanding the notion of “learning” by the students; the manner of learning which they apply as well as evaluation of their own effectiveness in this scope. The participants in the research identify learning mainly as mnemonic acquisition of new knowledge in the situations related to the process of studying. In the majority of cases, they work unsystematically, applying ineffective techniques of learning and express negative judgements on their own learning effectiveness.

E-learning has become a popular form of teaching. Nowadays not only students and pupils use e-learning but also workers in many companies. But not every presentation is effective; some of them seem to be more accessible to a receiver than others. The appearance of the presentation is as important as willingness to learn. This article shows results of the study about efficiency of remembering information using e-learning methods (such as presentation). The study was conducted on 118 students. The study allowed to choose the most efficient way of presenting information on slides that are used for self-learning.

The role of independent work in the conditions of implementation the competence approach in modern school is described in the article. Today it is considered to be an important factor of the «learning skill» competence formation. The subjective competences are formed on the basis of the experience of independent solving problems and though independence versatile interpreted by teachers and psychologists, it provides obtaining the activity techniques, awareness and validity of actions, criticism, ability to make a decision, manifestation of individuality, etc. The instrument of acquiring independence, independent learning activity is an independent work, which is organized by the pupil, and is motivated, controlled and realized at the convenient time for him. This requires self-regulation, targeted control of one’s own actions and in learning activities – matching the capabilities of the students with the requirements for designing a self-learning process and the ability to consciously control it. The formation of skills of self-learning requires external influences that provide a rational organization of independent work to strengthen all of the cognitive processes of students: sensation, perception, memory, attention, imagination, thinking, skills to submit one’s own verbal judgments. Independent work includes such functions as learning, developing and upbringing, which integrate the chemical methods, concepts, laws and theories with the skills to work consciously with different information resources and use the gained knowledge in practice. This approach provides the formation of the personal character and behavior features. Together this forms the ability to self-learning, which is an integral component of the competence «learning skill». With the change of the education system from traditional to the competence, change the methods of productive learning, among which the author distinguishes such groups: cognitive, creative (oriented at creating by students their own educational product) and organizational-activity. Systematic use of a wide variety of multi-level independent work and various forms of its implementation, gradually teaches students self-learning. The skills of self-control and self-assessment are carried out through informed choice feasible level of tasks. This, in turn, will provide continuous self-examination of the level of knowledge of program material.

The article provides theoretical substantiation for multimedia-assisted teaching foreign languages on the basis of the developed methodological recommendations, which appeared to be a solid background for successful mastering a foreign language. Since in today’s labour market is a need in specialists having a sufficient level of communicative skills, university teachers are expected to rely on effective methods for enhancing students’ cognitive abilities, which in turn will develop student’s independency and flexibility in lifelong self-learning. Provided are some results of the experiment, which prove the positive impact of the suggested methodological support on successful learning foreign languages

This paper presents a study aimed at examining whether DIY corpora compiled by professional legal translators can assist them in their role as learners of legal sublanguages, particularly those translators working into non-native target languages. A procedural DIY corpus methodology has been developed, involving the framed retrieval of authoritative legal texts from Internet repositories or other sources by legal translators themselves, according to their specific needs or those of particular projects, bearing in mind at all times feasibility in the workplace. Target audience expectations and requirements are also an important consideration in the project. A pilot study performing some initial testing with professional legal translators in certain legal genres and different languages has been completed and will be reported on. Results so far seem to indicate that compilation of such corpora can be achieved in an average of 30-45 minutes, in line with users' expressed criteria. It is posited that these highly specialised corpora may provide translators with some additional reference material that they are sorely lacking due to the absence or shortage in many language combinations of legal dictionaries or thesauri, in particular as regards collocations. It is hoped that a contribution may be made to professional practice in the long term.

Zarządzanie samodzielną pracą studentów jest jedną z podstawowych funkcji uczelni. Proces zarządzania samokształceniem przyszłych prawników ma swoje obiektywne problemy. Źródła tych problemów leżą w specyfice organizacji procesu kształcenia prawników. Artykuł prezentuje cztery grupy podstawowych problemów: stworzenie i wykorzystywanie standardów przygotowywań prawników, różnice systemów zarządzania procesem kształcenia na uczelniach, niedoskonałość technologii zarządzania samodzielną pracą i brak uwzględnienia personalnych potrzeb uczestników procesu kształcenia. W artykule przedstawione są propozycje sposobów rozwiązywania opisanych problemów.
